I'm looking for an intro book on the basics of graphic design to see if it really is something I like and could learn about. A textbook would be good, or something less technical, if you know of anything like that.

Here are a few that might interest you as far as the technical "how to's" of graphic design:

“what is graphic design”
“what is typography”
“how to be a graphic designer without losing your soul”
“Sagmeister”
“contemporary graphic design”
“stop stealing sheep and learn about typography”
Also there is a series of books called “basics design:” They do a few like “basics design: print & finish” or “basics design: colour”. These are really good books, they’re not too big, have great examples and get straight to the point. Personally I would recommend these books and any typography books! Never underestimate how important typography is in graphic design!!
