Should it be our new 20K mansion?

Gaudy (or is that Gaudi?)>\ WTH, either way.

JLeslie's avatar

Not my taste, but if it is just $20k now maybe I should buy it? The thing is too huge! Decor over the top. I don’t feel like I could rest in that house. It did make me second guess how I want to do my kitchen and pantry though in my new house. Not the cabinetry, but where the appliances are placed.

tom_g's avatar

It’s 19,697 sq ft? Get someone in there to convert it to 10 units. Or burn that ugly shit down and make it a 1.66-acre park or something.

JLeslie's avatar

I couldn’t find the details. 19,697! I would hate it. Honestly, it would make me a nervous wreck to be in a house that big, even if it was decorated to my liking.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I thought it looked rather like a tenement building. It was hard and cold. AND I DIDN’T SEE A LIBRARY! I DIDN’T SEE ONE SINGLE BOOK ANYWHERE!

JLeslie's avatar

Is someone actually currently living in it?

Dutchess_III's avatar

No, dude died. I think it’s up on the market. There is a whole story in there. He bought up neighboring ranch house….regular old ranch houses….and cobbled them all together. I see a couple of features I like, like the round windows, but overall it’s just a cold hearted mess, IMO.

KNOWITALL's avatar

I like clean lines so the bubbly structure and rocks are completely against my aesthetic needs.

Although if the landscaping were cleaned up, the house may not be bad in itself, pretty big for my tastes though.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Bubbly architecture….excellent description.
Get some rugs on those cold stone floors!

stanleybmanly's avatar

It is absolutely hideous, the sort of edifice one might market to the Clampett family. It sits there behind that garish sculpture (an insult to dolphins) trumpeting to the world that the residents are blessed with money and spared the curse of good taste.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@stanleybmanly Um, the Clampett family had a much nicer house than that in their series, cement pond and everything. Maybe Anna Nicky or someone flamboyant…lol

Dutchess_III's avatar

I wonder if the guy who built it was raised in poverty.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

Really, nobody likes it? I love it! I could definitely hang there. It says it is over a million to buy. Where are you getting 20k? Heck, I would buy it tomorrow. Wait, how much is the property tax? I might not be able to afford the tax, upkeep and utilities.

Dutchess_III's avatar

We will give it to you at your 20K party @Skaggfacemutt. You can do whatever you want with it.

Dutchess_III's avatar

It kind of made me laugh when I saw bunk beds, though. Bunk beds are usually used when you don’t have enough space.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

Okay, so I am stupid. What does 20K mean to you?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Skaggfacemutt It’s your lurve score, not $20,000.00

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

Oh, ha-ha! Well, I still love the house.

glacial's avatar

That may be the ugliest house I’ve ever seen. Why is it that people with money never know what to do with it?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Maybe because money is their main focus. My sister is that way. They have this great big ginormous house, but the things she has on the wall for decoration are the same things a kid puts up in their first apartment….touristy paper Japanese fans, things like that. It’s like her taste never evolved. She has a formal dining table that has absolutely no charm for me. Too Frenchy. But she was so excited when she got it because it was an Ethan Allen!! And really expensive!!

ucme's avatar

Looks like the Amityville house just had building sex with the Psycho house & spawned this monstrosity.

Kropotkin's avatar

Whoever designed that should be in another job—so as not to offend people’s eyes.

Dutchess_III's avatar

The guy who lived in it designed it. But he’s daid now.

Skaggfacemutt's avatar

I still love it. It looks like a cross between the Winchester mansion and Rose Red. But then, I love the Psycho house AND the Amityville house, too.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

It’s ugly.

YARNLADY's avatar

Oh for heaven sakes. I really got a laugh out of those gianormous bunk beds. Who on earth would sleep so many people together like that?

I actually liked the various sizes and shapes of the rooms. The decor is liike a modern work of art, you just sit there and study it until you get the feeling part.

Like @Dutchess_III I would definitely line many of the walls with full bookcases.

Unbroken's avatar

My eyes were very confused. Scratch the decor…and some of the features were awesome. But wow bathroom makeovers totally needed.

I wouldn’t want this for myself. And it def needs a make over but it wasn’t hopeless.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Did you see how SMALL the kitchen was? It wasn’t any bigger than what you’d find in an apartment.

I’d rent ¾ths of it out.

flutherother's avatar

It is a fascinating monstrosity unfit for human habitation.

JLeslie's avatar

The kitchen was pretty big, you were looking at the butler’s pantry.

JLeslie's avatar

I’m doing a big pantry and I have seen a lot of them with sinks, but I am not going to do that. I don’t have servants preparing and cleaning out of the sight of my guests. LOL. Mine won’t be that big either, but pretty big. Lots of storage space, and some work space. I will be able to set stuff back there though during a party if I want things out of sight. I debated back and forth whether to do a bigger kitchen, or a narrower kitchen and a huge pantry.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Narrow kitchen and huge pantry.

JLeslie's avatar

Narrower. It’s still a decent size kitchen. It’s rectangular and going to have one of those big islands. Not an island in the middle, but the island kind of is the front barrier to the kitchen. If the kitchen was bigger it would be more square and I would put an island in the middle. I am torturing myself trying to decide exactly how to design it. Where to put the fridge, whether to have two entrances to the pantry or one. I am making myself crazy.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, just leave it to me! I’ll figure it out!

JLeslie's avatar

I’ll send you some photos of similar ideas.

Unbroken's avatar

Isn’t the triangle of sink fridge and oven lauded as most efficient? It’s been a while since I tuned into such things.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

Can we talk about how if this house was for rent it would only be approximately $1700/mo?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Why would we even want to do that @Aesthetic_Mess? But we can. Sure. Go ahead!

glacial's avatar

@Aesthetic_Mess Your moniker is very apt for this discussion.

stanleybmanly's avatar

@KNOWITALL Yes Jed would tell Ellie May to “go water the critters at the sea mint pond”. Ah, those were the days.

Aesthetic_Mess's avatar

@glacial How? Because the house is so gaudy?
@Dutchess_III I was just surprised because where I am, $1700 will barely get you a one bedroom. Indiana is crazy!

Dutchess_III's avatar

That’s crazy! Wow. You could rent the whole place out, then sublet to about 20 people and make a killing.

JLeslie's avatar

Huh? $1700 in Indiana?! Come on now. That does sound nuts. I pay $1600 for a two bedroom apt with a two car garage in Clearwater, FL with three pools in the complex, workout room and the community is on the bay.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Where did that info come from? Was it in the article?

glacial's avatar

@Dutchess_III I think that @Aesthetic_Mess is interpreting your 20K remark as an annual rental fee.

@Aesthetic_Mess 20K was a reference to the lurve parties we have for jellies as they reach every 10K benchmark. Or… maybe you knew that and were making a joke. ;)

Dutchess_III's avatar

It’s on the market for $1,295,000. That’s what it says right under the pics, anyway.

glacial's avatar

@Dutchess_III 20,000 divided by 12 is roughly 1700.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Well, that’s just cuz your marter than me. Thats all.

Valerie111's avatar

I actually really like it but looking at it gives me a headache.
