I doubt it worked. It was kind of a cool, albeit fucked up, idea, but he didn’t seem to take it seriously.
It’s about a 9 on creativity. Not too funny though.
That guy needs professional attention. I don’t know if this worked but I hope he doesn’t drive anywhere near me…
Pretty creative. The sad thing is that it will probably not have the desired effect.
Creative, but I don’t think it’ll work. Poor guy.
They ruined it when the doctor started beating him up. If they had played it differently, there’s a chance it might have actually worked, instead of making the guy laugh.
Instead the guy just laughed.
That guy was really slapping the shit out of him. Most guys I know would certainly not be laughing after that, prank or no prank.
@snowberry Yea, they revealed their hand way way too early.
I agree it would have been better to have him sweat a bit longer, until he caught on.
@longgone And poor whoever might end up injured dead if he doesn’t stop, poor family and friends of his too.
^^ Of course. The thing is, I don’t think he’s able to stop. If it were that easy…maybe this has been eye-opening for him, though. Who knows.
@longgone I agree. Let’s hope this was an eye opening. When he asked about his daughter immediately it looked maybe…
People fleeing to Canada due to the mandatory Clinton Haircare initiative?
If all that alcohol hadn’t killed off so many brain cells he might have caught on earlier :D
Hopefully some binge drinkers seeing this tape will realize that before they kill off too many more brain cells of their own.
The more I think about this, the more I wonder about which state this guy lives in (I mean geographically) that he has FIVE DUIs with apparently little consequence from the courts.
Why hasn’t his license been revoked ? How many chances are they willing to give him to kill innocent people ?
@Buttonstc I was thinking that as well. What judge in their right mind would allow for that. “Ok…..sir…. This appears to be you’re fifth DUI to date but you seem like an ok guy, I think I’ll give you one more chance to get your act together, btw have you checked out that new bar that just opened up down the street?”
This was a great idea, but executed really poorly.
@rockfan Yea, I’ve been thinking about it more, if they really wanted this to work they had to go all the way. He was super concerned to see his daughter. Tell him something happened to her over the ten years he was “in a coma”. Then leave the room. Leave him to contemplate just how bad he’s fucked up his life. Then finally reveal your hand. It’s fucked, yes, but their approach just left it feeling too much like a joke.
Or better yet, tell him that his daughter was a passenger when he was on his drunk driving spree. Except that she didn’t survive even tho he did.
Let that rattle around in his selfish brain for awhile before tipping their hand.
And the unfortunate truth is that in many drunk driving fatalities, it is the drunk being the only one who gets to walk away after everyone else is killed. Apparently the drunks are so sloshed that their bodies are relaxed and don’t tense up as most do at an impending crash. This is what contributes to their survival.
@Buttonstc Exactly that. I’ve seen people I know get into accidents while drunk that you just look at like “how in the fuck are you walking away from that…....” meanwhile I got into a “minor” accident and have permanent damage.
@flo If his parents pay for it, he actually STAYS there and is truly rehabilitated, I’m good with that, but I don’t think it’ll work out like that. It’s never worked for Linsay Lohan, right? I think “affluenza” is a lousy term.
@snowberry I’m conflicted. I don’t think it makes sense to put away 16 year old either for 20 yrs either, esp. if it is with hard core people. And I don’t know how long this “long term” is.
@flo
Hopefully, “long term” means until the professional staff is convinced that he “gets it”.
And since its court ordered, in all likelihood they have the authority to do just that.
Most long term residential facilities are for a minimum of 90 days as opposed to the more common 30 days (which is typically the cutoff point for many insurance companies willingness to cover).
This is then followed by an indefinite period living in a sober house in order to eventually transition to a job and regular life.
This is especially crucial for younger alcoholics who have literally no life experience in responsible living sans alcohol and whose maturation process was halted when their addiction began. So you could basically have someone who is chronologically and physically inhabiting a 20+ year old body with the mental and emotional development of a 11–13 yr. old (depending upon how early they began drinking.)
I agree that it was creative. But they didn’t take it far enough. He didn’t take it seriously. Maybe it is because they started hitting him or it is because they let on that it was aprank too soon and their message didn’t have a chance to sink in.
If they are lucky it might have worked, but I am going to be pessimistic and say it probably didn’t work.
