Is Walden University a creditable one?

Asked by Eggie (5926points) December 13th, 2013

I am looking to do a Masters Degree course online and Walden’s looks like a good place. I just want to get some feedback on that kind of University. Is it legit and if anyone here has ever did any courses with that University, experienced any problems?

Minimally, I think. North Central Association of Colleges and Schools is a good sign that at least the degree is for real.

Look for: (1) what kind of accreditation is usually expected for your master program? A good business program would probably demand AACSB accreditation, for instance.

(2) are people actually successful with the degree in their careers?

Walden University is regionally accredited by the Higher Education Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges since 1990. But not sure about it’s Academic reputation. Check the reviews for details.

I am probably going to be monitored for this, but I find it amazing that a university would be called Walden after the way that Gary Trudeau depicts the fictional Walden University in Doonesbury.

@LostInParadise
Not a problem, since no one saw that movie anyway, much less remember that the university in it was called walden.

There is a Doonesbury movie?

How would I know?

“Not a problem, since no one saw that movie anyway….”? Is that referring to Doonesbury?

ragingloli's avatar

Maybe. Never heard of it. And if there is no movie based on it, that just proves how unremarkable it is.

It actually used to be somewhat funny/subversive.

If they made a movie about it, that would be a sign that it went way downhill, if anything.

@ragingloli Doonesbury is a major comic strip in the United States, and has referenced Walden University, as a parody of Yale, since the early 1970s.

The only movie was a made for TV special about 35 years ago.

Doonesbury is still subversive and political.

Thank you guys. I will be looking more a Walden since they seem to be very credible.

I don’t know if this would be useful or not…http://www.studentsreview.com/MN/WU_g.html
