Shall we take a moment to mourn the passing of 'Lawrence of Arabia' star Peter O'Toole?

I’m probably one of the few who thought his later stuff was better than his earlier stuff. The ‘old aristocrat’ and ‘crotchety old man’ roles were the ones that I enjoyed far more than the ‘virile young hunk’,.
But this was a consummate actor. Sad to see him go.
My favorite quote:
“Many years ago I had a beloved leather jacket… and I never wanted to throw it away. I sent it to the cleaners because it was covered in blood and Guinness and scotch and Corn Flakes, the usual, It went off to the Sycamore Cleaners and it came back with a thing pinned on it: ‘It distresses us to return work which is not perfect’ – so I want that on my tombstone,”
He was a fabulous actor who will be greatly missed! Truly a classic talent!
I remember watching an incredibly bad movie he did with Ann Turkel, they were on a ship that was booby trapped with a bomb, and it was so bad, but his character still sticks out. He was that good.
As many of us expressed in the previous question about Peter’s passing, he made wonderful movies both when young (Lawrence of Arabia, Becket), middle-aged (Creator, My Favorite Year) and elderly (Venus). And yes, he made lots of stinkers, too—how many actors haven’t?— probably just to keep food and drink on the table. But what role he played, that face and voice and lanky gait were unique… and irreplaceable
R.I.P. to a man with one of the greatest porn star names of all time.
My favorite quote is from What’s New Pussycat? – “Look, I know you’ll think this is crazy, but, er, when the light hits me from a certain direction, I’m… handsome.”
he takes a healthy swig directly from the bottle in his hand after delivering this line
To an extent, @elbanditoroso I think the ‘epic’ films of the past required a different ‘larger than life’ acting. I agree that Peter O’Toole was more suited the more personal modern roles where his own personality could show through.
Great quote @Smitha! Another that gives his ‘life in a nutshell’. Thanks.
@ucme Yes, you had a question regarding favorite O’Toole movies. This question is about his life (movies included), and the impressions that he left on people.
Yes, @Adirondackwannabe he could fairly well stop a show if he chose (even if he couldn’t carry a poor one all on his own.
Thanks for answering @Pachy. Just the sort of comments I’d hope to illicit. I was hoping that people would discuss the man rather than just which movie they favored most.
Somehow, @Blondesjon, I think he’d get a laugh out of being the greatest porn star of all time. Thanks.
@ibstubro That’s not what you said in the pm you sent now is it?
I really don’t care if anyone asks a duplicate question, go for it, just simply pointing the fact out that’s all.
To say that your question isn’t about his movies when your details list several is a little misleading too.
My question dealt with quotes & memories as well as the umbrella title suggests, that’s kind of how it works.
Sorry for that, @ucme. I’ll not offend you with attempted politeness again. The moderators found them to be separate questions…I suggest you take it up with them, in private, rather than with me in any forum.
