Why don't you try this method with your cat ?

I keep reading that cats wake you up early for breakfast. Why not put the cat food next to the bed, pour it in a bowl then go back to sleep? Or you could put it in their bowl at bedtime next to the bed, cover it up with something heavy then when they wake you up just lift the lid?
Or, why can’t they eat before bedtime and wake up not hungry?

@Aster I have an automatic cat feeder that gives him half a cup of food at exactly 5am. Mother fucker still wakes me up every morning.
I used to do exactly that. The food bowls were on the floor at the end of the bed. I would flop down there, scoop out food and go back to sleep. However, our cats were allowed to free feed, so this didn’t happen every morning. The current cat also free feeds. When she needs food, she lays in front of her bowl and gives us a pitiful look.
@uberbatman why does she wake you up? That feeder sounds like a great idea.
Being the lazy fuck I am I would pretty much pour out 5 pounds of food and let my cat eat as she pleased. Still woke up every morning with the cat on my chest purring and drooling. I miss her so much.
Even though my cat could eat all she wanted she was slender and could drop a Rottweiler in a tenth a second.
They will eat the food, and then start pestering you for more.
I have an automatic dispenser. He eats and it dispenses as he eats.
@KNOWITALL :: She was. My sisters Australian Sheppard’s were terrified of her. I saw her chase a squirrel about 20 feet up a telephone pole. I’m still a bit shocked she was able the inch her way down. It took around a half hour. But it only took two seconds to get up it.
@Aster because “now that I’ve been fed you will wake up and play with me damn it”
I lot of cats will wake you up just because they think you should be awake. I used to feed my cats before going to bed, and that worked well for mine… but we also locked them into the kitchen area overnight to keep them from disturbing us. Most cats just like early mornings.
I’ve known other people with cats that would not be appeased. The automatic feeder on a timer solved the problem for one, but some keep griping about being woken up, and I have one friend who gets up in the middle of the night to feed his. I would never, ever do that, but he apparently doesn’t mind.
@glacial My cat is a dick in this regard as well lol. He will try and make me play with him super early in the morning. The more I ignore him, the more annoying he gets; he knows he can hold out longer than I can. Every single time I have resigned myself to just waking up at 5am to play with him we will play for about 20 minutes and then he plops himself down on the bed where I WAS JUST SLEEPING and passes out…...and now I’m wide awake – _ -
And despite all this I still love this fucking cat :P
My cat wakes up my husband by jumping off the window sill and crashing into the waterbed, then stomping around on the bad. I sleep through it all.
My 2 cats free feed on dry food and get “breakfast” ( canned food ) around 4:30–5 p.m.
“Breakfast” has been the catch all word to get them to come in for years before dark. lol
@Dutchess_III Yea, my fiance is the same way. I’m going crazy telling myself not to strangle the cat and she’s sleeping like a baby.
I’m surprised you still have a waterbed….mine would have been popped by now for sure.
Well, there is a thick quilted covering over the bed, and on top of that is a feather mattress. I don’t think a rhino could poke through it!
I guess our 2 bichons aren’t that bad after all. They’d sleep all morning if we would. They Love sleeping on the bed. lol
There was a cat at my work once that I kept in a dining room right next to the office. Whenever it was his feeding hours, he’d meow at the door and everyone could hear it. Luckily, the only customers that heard it were ones who begged me to see the cat.
My cat wakes me up every morning at exactly the same time, and I think it’s because he wants to make contact, not just because he’s hungry. I’ve tried several kinds of automatic feeders, but because he tends to make himself sick overeating dry food, I give him only the wet stuff, which I wouldn’t want to keep in the auto feeder overnight. But thanks for the idea, @Aster.
Both mine demand food before bedtime in addition to an early breakfast. If I get into the bed, Arnie will start prowling around the bedroom letting out a startlingly loud “meow” every few minutes, and Bob will simply jump on the bed, stand between me and my book and gaze imploringly into my eyes.
Even after I get up and feed them right before I go to sleep, I wake up at 5:30 a.m. with Bob on my chest (drooling, as well) and Arnie just sitting about six inches from my face staring at me, almost willing me to wake up. Then comes the contest to see if Mommy can make it to the bathroom without peeing herself while trying to avoid 8 cat legs winding around her, meowing and generally blocking her as best they can.
Ain’t cats grand? Wouldn’t give mine up for anything!
My cats eat whenever they want, and I refill whenever the dish is empty (neither of them are overweight). If they wake me up, it’s not because they’re hungry…they just want me to be awake. I sleep like the dead, though, so I’m usually blissfully unaware of their efforts.
I can sleep through a tornado. But a baby whimpering within a mile of me has me up on my feet and moving.
