What color is your umbrella?

It is black, y’all.

Green.

Being who I am, my umbrella is just an umbrella. It keeps me dry in the rain, which is precisely what I require of it. :)

Most are black. I also have a navy one; a plaid one; a green one; and a red, white and blue one. The colorful ones were given to me from fragrance vendors.

I also have a lavender parasol (given to me as a gift).

Oh, and a turquoise white and black beach umbrella. This was given to me as a gift from the Coolwater rep.

I don’t own one. I like the feeling of rain.

Let me get this straight, all of you just have one umbrella? I have one for each car and then a few left over that are kept in the house. My sister and aunt live in NYC and don’t have cars, but they have more than one umbrella. If I go to visit there is one I can use if it rains.

@JLeslie I’ve never had more than one umbrella. It’s hard enough to carry one – what need would I have for several? If it’s hanging up in the house or sitting dry in the car while I’m outside in the rain, it serves no purpose.

Seattlites don’t use umbrellas :p

@glacial I keep one in my car in case it rains while I am away from house. I guess if your car is always at your house when you are home you don’t need an extra one in your house. But, i have fold up umbrellas in my car, and some nice big ones in my house. I also have been stuck once or twice without an umbrella and bought one on the spot. On vacation, that sort of thing.

Plus, I have the extras that were given to me.

@jerv In MD I used to not worry much about having an umbrella, but being in FL it can be a downpour. You get more of a dreery rain a lot of the time.

Black. That is the only acceptable color. They match the tires on all my vehicles.

My “go to” is a collapsible Shedrain golf umbrella that is blue and green. I bought it in Portland in 1997 and used it (in fact) when I lived in Seattle. One time I accidentally left it on a Seattle city bus and somehow got it back. It’s been an awesome umbrella as far as umbrellas go.

My “show to” is my collapsible New Orleans Saints umbrella, because you never know when you might need to second line.

Umbrellas? What are they for?

One day I would like to be the kind of adult who owns an umbrella.

I have many umbrellas. I have one maroon and one black, the rest are multi-colored.

My grandfather and father were in the umbrella biz. I have a huge collection of dusty ones in many colors, including a few golf umbrellas, in my basement. I keep one old black one in the car bur rarely use it. Usually I just wear a gortex jacket or get wet.

We have several at my house, but the one I have at school with me is a pink automatic umbrella bought on a whim at the grocery store. It’s served me quite well.

I never understood umbrellas. It rains a lot here in Massachusetts, so using an umbrella would mean carrying it around all the time. Then, since it’s also really windy, you’d have to spend much of your effort simply trying to keep the umbrella at the correct angle to keep the rain off you and make sure the umbrella doesn’t blow away. The only time I recall seeing a large of amounts of umbrellas was in Boston’s financial district – and most of those people seemed to be fighting with the umbrella.

Mine has a print of the Vitruvian Man on it. I got it from a museum shop when I moved to NYC, noticed the lovely moving tapestry of color that is umbrellas from above in the city and wanted to contribute.

Dark blue. So here’s a stupid story.

A while back it was raining and my roomate lent me her umbrella, which was beige. Went to a bank machine, then had to go talk to a teller inside the actual bank. I forgot the umbrella at the bank machine, and only realized this while walking out of the bank. This took like five minutes, and when I went back for the umbrella it was gone. It was a broken down piece of shit filled with cigarette burns (don’t ask me how that worked out) and some of the little metal rods used to keep it open were broken, or missing.

And someone still fucking took it. I mean what the hell. So since it wasn’t mine, I decided to replace it by buying another. I looked in like seven stores and there were no umbrellas anywhere. I’m thinking to myself, why, is it because it’s raining? Everybody’s buying umbrellas now, and there are none left? What kind of ass is this? And Target fucking sucks, they didn’t have any. They’re supposed to have everything. Well all I saw were oversized red shopping carts that look like they’re filled with air, because they sort of have this outer round shape. And with those prices, how the hell do I ever need a cart that big? I’ll never be able to fill it up, unless I was a millionaire, and if I was, I sure as hell wouldn’t be shopping at that damn place.
I was hungry, tired, wanted to go home, but noooo, had to get an umbrella. Finally found one in a drug store. It’s dark blue, and has a little case you put over it when it’s closed. I call it the condom, because that’s what it looks like, minus the chamber on the tip.

In Alaska, it rains almost every day some summers, and no one has an umbrella. Hah
