Download Speed: 12.93 Mbps
Upload Speed: 2.1 Mbps
Ping: 7 ms
Around $80 a month.
The world’s fastest internet service is powered by a Sony-backed ISP in Japan. They have an incredible internet speed with a downstream of 2.488 Gbps.

Download = 3.86

Upload = .77

PING = 39 (I have no idea what Ping is?)

The speed meets all my needs, can’t tell you the cost off hand sorry.

@Adagio Ping time (Packet Internet Groper) is the latency or delay in the signal. It is the round trip time in milliseconds that it takes the signal to travel from your computer to the destination server and back.

I remember someone putting a link to where I can find this info. Anyone remember?
My connection is good but sometimes I can’t press buttons for some reason.

Download 20.6 Mbps
Upload 2.15 Mbps
ping 31ms

Bundled about $ 65 US.

Speedtest says….

6.56 MB/s Down
0.75 MB/s Up
25 ms ping

Well, it’s $55/month, and unlike cable, it’s consistent and reliable as I don’t share bandwidth with my neighbors.

Asia in general has the fastest internet. The US has the slowest and most expensive internet of any First world nation. Where I used to live literally had worse internet than many remote African villages, and worse availability as well. If you want good internet, forget North America.

@talljasperman I find the internationally-recognized Ookla speed test that I linked far more reliable than what you posted, and as it’s the most poplar speed test in the world, I am far from alone.
Is that test you linked from your ISP? The site seems like something a middle-school wannabe-web designer put up, which makes me wonder what they even know about computers. That, and the ping time makes me doubt the quality of their network.

@talljasperman Thanks! According to this one, here are my stats:
ping: 194 ms
download: 7.73 mbps
upload: 2.08 mbps
Pretty good I think. I don’t have to pay for the wifi :).
I’ll see what it is when I’m at my “other place”. I’m sure it will be even faster there.

@jerv the speed test is from Shaw that is in Edmonton, Alberta. That might be why my ping is faster than others.

jerv's avatar

@talljasperman The Ookla test has >2500 servers, so it will test your actual connection rather than just the connection between you and some shack in Alberta. The ping portion of the Shaw test is less about the quality of your connection and more about how far away from Alberta you live, and therefore I cannot grant any real validity to it.
Also, half the people here have a ping notably faster than your’s. @Adagio is barely slower, and I would wager that the reason @dxs appears to have the sort of ping that eliminates the possibility of playing an MMO shooter is not that @dxs has a bad connection, but that @dxs lives nowhere near where you do.

dxs's avatar

@jerv Yep. New England is nowhere near Alberta. Similar in temperature, though—Alberta’s just a bit colder (how is that possible??).
The Ookla test was the one that was posted some time ago here on Fluther. I think it was posted by Lucky Guy.
According to Ookla:
Ping: 10
Download: 20.33
Upload: 5.90

ragingloli's avatar

13,9 mbps down
0,96 mbps up
15ms ping

37€ per month, but that includes a land phone line.

jerv's avatar

@dxs Quite an improvement, eh? Makes me wonder what sort of network Shaw really has. Your second set of numbers is what I’d expect from a cable connection. Mine is dry-loop DSL, which I prefer as my connection is direct as opposed to shared with the neighborhood, so my connection is less prone to fluctuations.

ragingloli's avatar

@jerv
Maybe it is intentional, to lure customers by falsely claiming that their current provider is too slow.
That test gave me a ping of over 300 ms.

£23.00 a month (about 40$), also includes TV sports package.

Jesus, I’m a spoiled brat after reading this thread: I’m 50MB/25MB, but it is 70 a month. I’m a gamer, and I don’t need cable as I download everything.

Just tested my work connection: 20/6 with a 41 ping.

^ That was with a speed test app I’ve had on my iPhone for ages, and the data is on my home WiFi.

I downloaded the ookla app and got this on cellular LTE:
Test Date: Jan 6, 2014 8:02 PM
Download: 10.28 Mbps
Upload: 4.57 Mbps
Ping: 51 ms
Connection Type: Cellular

… and this for my WiFi:
Test Date: Jan 6, 2014 8:05 PM
Download: 18.13 Mbps
Upload: 4.44 Mbps
Ping: 14 ms
Connection Type: Wi-Fi
