The two Super Bowl teams this year are both from states where marijuana has been legalized. Causation or coincidence?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33577points) January 20th, 2014

Some say that there is no such thing as coincidence…

My two cents is that legalized marijuana has nothing to do with the contenders this year – but could this be a sign of some deity with a sense of humor?

Coincidence. No doubt about it?

I don’t think many of those people frequent Fluther, but we shall see…

Well, the Patriots sucked until 9/11, then started winning when patriotism was at a fever pitch…..

My opinion? Simply that most stoners don’t give two hoots in hell about major league football. Now that, of course, is a very broad generalization, but has been my experience with the peeps I know, so I would have to vote on the side of coincidence.

@VS That is a very broad generalization, indeed. My experience has been the exact opposite. Why would potheads hate sitting on a couch in front of a TV with a bag of Doritos?

My dad has been a self-proclaimed “professional pot smoker” since he was 10 and he’s the biggest NFL fan I know.

I’d say there’s no correlation between these two factors either. It all depends on what “type” of stoner you know.

@VS People who smoke marijuana are soooooo widely diverse you can’t really make any generalization of what they like/dislike.

Personally me and most of my friends can give two shits about testosterone filled sports (the modern day Colosseum if you will) but many other smokers are totally into this sort of thing.

Dude….It’s like, wow!

Cool!

I hadn’t looked at it like that until now but if you just listen to what the earth is telling you, you can see the connections like the roots of a tree spreading out to support and nurture the organism that is pro-football.

Notice that San Francisco, home of medical marijuana, almost made it but fell short to a team from a completely legal state. Same with Massachusetts!

I quit toking a long time ago, but I am looking forward to the Bong Bowl.

That gives “super bowl” a whole new meaning.

Pot is completely legal (it appears) in North Korea too, so I find this to be a coincidence.

Interestingly enough, both states have a large number of craft breweries. According to the Brewers Association, Colorado has 353 craft breweries and the state of Washington has 257.

~Put that in your pipe in smoke it!
