What does it mean when the second (and even the third) toes are longer than the big toe?

Asked by skfinkel (13537points) July 11th, 2007

I have heard that such a configuration means something, but I want to find out if others have heard anything about what this might mean.

I think that when the second toe is longer then the big toe, it's called Mortons Toe.

Here's a medical description,

Morton's toe leads to excessive pressure on the second metatarsal head (behind the second toe at the ball- of-the-foot) resulting in pain similar to the discomfort associated with metatarsalgia. The constant pressure placed on the longer second toe while walking or standing can lead to callus formation under the second metatarsal head due to this excessive pressure.

I'd figure having the third toe longer too would just be more of the same situation.

I've heard the term "Grecian toe" or "Grecian foot" to describe the case where your second toe is longer than your big toe.

I did a search on the term "Grecian foot" and found these two pages:

1. The Your Remarkable Anatomy page: "A Grecian foot is often used as a sign of beauty. It is found on many Greek statues."

2. The Bradshaw Foundation page on Chauvet Cave paintings: "His second toe was longer than the big toe, giving him what sculptors call a Grecian foot, which in Athenian times was always thought to be a sign of good breeding."

According to legend, if your index finger is longer than your middle finger, you're a werewolf. Not sure what toe length means, perhaps a sign of a well-endowed werewolf.

I heard that a second toe longer than the big toe is a sign of royalty, but that was coming from a girl whose second toe was longer than her big toe.

Um, it means that you’ve inherited the characteristic from one or both parents. Honestly, people. It’s not a medical condition.
