Can anyone give me a short explanation of the HBO series Girls?
I was flipping the channels at my hotel the other night and ran across the series Girls. I don’t have HBO at home – I had heard that the lead actress is controversial (not sure why) and I heard that the show was interesting (again, not sure why).
I watched it for about 35 minutes, and with each passing scene, it seemed more an more incoherent.
But maybe I am missing something. Can anyone give me the Cliffs Notes version of Girls and why it is popular?

I’m familiar with this show as well, just not enough to answer the question properly. I’ve seen some clips and it seems to be about dirty girls being dirty. I’d like to see someone give a description as well because I’m not sure theres much more to to the plot than that. Why is it popular? Because it has sexual themes in it, lots of them.
The show is about a group of friends (think Seinfeld, Sex in the City, Entourage). They are self absorbed narcissists who often veer off into sociopathic behavior. I get very tired of those sorts of shows. I do like Lena Dunham, though, and I think that her willingness to show a girl with a less than perfect body, the antithesis of the Hollywood ideal, is daring and deserving of accolades. I’ll continue to watch the show for that reason – until I can’t watch it any more. Oh, one other reason I watch the show is Adam, played by Adam Driver. I think he is riveting as a character and an actor. Sort of ironic that a show about Girls has a male as the most interesting and talented (I think) character.
