What can I use in place of laundry detergent?
I’m out. Don’t feel like getting out in the cold to get some. What could I use as a substitute?

I never tried this but I am wondering if you put the clothes in the machine (just this once) and just ran the machine, if it would do (again, doing it just one time). Of course, if you had stains on the clothes, they may or may not come out, depending on what they were.
Dish soap, very small amount though..lol
@jca that reminds me….. I read somewhere about much of the detergent not rinsing out the clothing, especially towels. I only have a few things I want to wash. I’ll put them in with some towels. :) Good thinkin’!
Will it work @KNOWITALL? I think I better ask my husband The Plumber.
Baking soda and a little shampoo. Very little. Cup of vinegar in the rinse will remove any residue.
I wondered about baking soda. I think we’re on to something!
If you’re feeling really experimental and are washing a hot load, you can use your box grater to get about ¼ cup of ivory soap. I used to wash my cloth diapers with ivory soap and baking soda.
Seek…you are awesome. Period! Except you wear cloth diapers. Shouldn’t you be in Depends by now?
Hahaha. My son’s cloth diapers, naturally.
I’ve been where you are now Seek….doesn’t it stun you that people would spend so much money on diapers you just throw away? When Jen came home pg, I was in that place. I told her I would NOT be buying disposable diapers. If she wanted them she was going to have to mow the neighbor’s lawn or something to buy her own.
Oreo crumbs ground down to a fine powder with gypsy tears.
Yeah.
I thought I had lucked out, because just as he was starting to potty-train, he started growing out of his diapers. I was like, “YES! Won’t have to buy a second size group!”
…and then he had a growth spurt. And took longer than expected to finish training.
I couldn’t justify the upfront cost of a whole new round of cloth, but ended up spending just about as much in ‘sposies in four months as I did for cloth diapers for two and a half years.
Yeah…it’s different when they get bigger. That’s why in my day, before disposable diapers, kids were potty trained at 6 months, unlike kids today who don’t get potty trained until they’re 30. And we walked uphill to school both ways. Barefooted. In the snow. :}~
Don’t forget, it was 20 miles each way.
