What are your sleep patterns?

Asked by anotherstranger (55points) January 29th, 2014

I was just thinking about sleeping patterns the other day, and I became curious of other people’s lifestyles. When do you go to bed? When do you wake up? Do you sleep a lot or do you barely sleep? Are you happy with your sleep pattern or was it forced upon you?

I tend to take a nap around 10 pm, then fall asleep around 3am. For some reason, I always wake up around 5:30 – 6 am and feel the need to do something: pack lunch, read something, write a few lines, open the windows, etc., and then go back to sleep until 7:45am.

How about you guys?

It’s pretty random. Although more often that not I am a night owl. I often go to bed at 5 or 6AM and wake up at noon or 1PM.

I also often take a nap for a couple hours sometime during the day or evening.

I’m in bed between 9PM and 11PM. I get up at 6AM on weekdays and 7–8AM on weekends.

I usually sleep pretty solid through the night.

My sleep pattern is very regular. I go to bed at 11:30pm and I get up at 7:30. Sometimes I have to get up at 6:30am for an early shift at work.

Terribly erratic as I get older. I usually go to sleep around 10–10:30 and wake up at 5, but I never sleep through the night and often spend as much or more time awake than asleep.

I usually sleep 0600–1330 Sun-Wed, and 0900–1600 Thur-Sat.

I work 1630–0300 Mon-Thur, and have an hour-long commute on each end.

I’m usually in bed by 10:30pm at the latest. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I wake up at 7:43am. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I wake up at 7:16am.

We’re in bed by 9:00PM most weeknights. The TV comes on at 4:30AM and there’s about 20 minutes of watching the news and weather. Husband is usually out the door by 5:30AM and I doze on the couch for another hour.

However, our natural pattern is bi-modal . We’ve done this on Friday and Saturday nights and it works well. We discovered no need for an afternoon nap and we feel more refreshed after the second sleep. I don’t think we’ll go wandering to visit the neighbors, but it does work for us.

11:30 PM – 6 AM IF I am lucky.

We usually have lights-out between 11–11:30pm, then I wake up between 5:30–6:00am on a couple days for work, and 7:30–8:00am the rest of the days. I try to keep it fairly regular, because I do notice that I get groggy – similar to jet lag – if I vary the time too much.

When I was working I was on a much stricter schedule. In bed by 9:30, up at 6:30.
Now it’s a bit more random, but on average in bed by 11 up around 8:30 or 9.
I do wake up every damn morning at about 4:00. I use the bathroom then go lay in bad and replay crap (usually bad crap) in my head and wonder why I’m awake. I fall back asleep around 5.

…After I wrote that I read @tedibear‘s bi-modal link. How interesting.

On normal days, I go to bed between 10.30 PM and midnight and get up at around 6.30 AM (because I have to, but it feels unnatural to me). On weekends it is very different – sometimes I am out and don’t go to bed until early morning, other times I am home and fall asleep in front of the TV at 10 PM.

I have had a very stressful year and need extra sleep these days to feel my best. I strive for a solid 9 hours and go to bed by 9:30 to wake by 6:30. I am working 6 days a week right now and Sunday is my only day to sleep in an extra hour or two. I can easily sleep 10 hours given the stress level I am under at this time.

Usually to bed at 10:30p, up at 6am. I never deviate unless it’s a weekend nap and sleep well.

I go to bed about 9:30, read a bit, then sleep.
I wake up about 3:30am, then lay there until about 5, when I fall back to sleep.
I get up about 7.

Zzzzzzxzxzzzzzzz wake, water the porcelain, back to zzzzzzzzzzzzzz until I hit the “snooze” 4 times.

@tedibear I am often like that myself. It is not something I do on purpose. It just seems to fit my nature.

I have no schedule. I go to bed anywhere between 10:30 and 2 AM. I try to wake up at any time between 8 and 9:30. It’s a little ridiculous.

My sleep patters are fairly steady. I go to bed between midnight and 1am. On a work day I get up around 7.30am, and on a day off I might sleep in until around 9.

I work midnight shift hours at work from about 9:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. I usually go to sleep about 7:00 a.m. after eating breakfast and interrupt my sleep pattern by getting up at noon (I have to eat lunch, no matter what, because it helps regulate my blood sugar levels as a diabetic). Following that, I lay down again and try to get what sleep I can from about 12:30 p.m. until about 3:00 p.m. and then I get up and start my day.

I work kind of a strange schedule, which I made myself. I like to have at least part of the afternoon to do things, so I work from around 7:00 a.m. to around 3:00 p.m. So my sleep schedule is hideous. I try to go to bed about 10:00 or 10:30 p.m., because I get up at 5:30 a.m. Usually, I can’t sleep before that time, so I end up tucking into bed with a book and finally fall asleep around 11:30 or midnight.

It’s not enough sleep, dammit!
