Do you think the Goya empanada discs would be too big to fill with a dessert filling?

Asked by poofandmook (17320points) January 30th, 2014

I want to make banana nutella empanadas. I already make regular beef ones with the orange discs, but I want to try these with the white discs. I’m a little concerned with the size though.

Would you halve them? Or fill them partially and trim off excess from the edges after fork sealing them?

Banana and nutella sounds really rich. I probably wouldn’t do anything larger than, say, a mini-quiche for that.

Experiment.
It is going to be really rich, so I think I’d try partially filling and then rolling the edge before crimping instead of trimming. Maybe just a sprinkling of sugar and cinnamon so the crust almost becomes a second desert.
If course, you can also try halving and partially-trimmed. Full sized if they’re to be eaten cold. Crimp 2 discs down the middle or into thirds or forths, then fill and crimp the edges might be fun, too…crimp the interior extra hard and you have break-aparts.

Send a couple different sizes over here I’ll tell which one is the best! ;>)

Not at all. My wife has used those to make dessert empanadas filled with fruit and nuts or Nutella and bananas. Super yummy.
