Is your (G)god a virgin?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) January 31st, 2014

From any religion is your god a virgin? For example Zeus sleeps around with mortals and has children with them. Like Hercules was born of Zeus and a mortal, do any female goddess do the same, and mate with mortals?

Since I don’t think Jehovah ever literally even if you take scripture has real stuck his penis into a vagina (or anus or mouth), I suppose He is technically a virgin. Perhaps His son died a virgin too, as his sexuality isn’t really discussed in the Bible. Ironically, only the Virgin Mary ended up actually getting some action eventually. Again, taking it literally, she was a virgin when Jesus was conceived, but she did end up going on to have other children.

Venus slept around with mortals. Google Anchises.

No I think she is the goddes of sex

Freyja (“Lady”) is a goddess associated with love, sexuality, beauty, fertility, gold, magic, war, and death.

Freyja is the owner of the necklace Brísingamen, rides a chariot pulled by two cats, owns the boar Hildisvíni, possesses a cloak of falcon feathers, and, by her husband Óðr, is the mother of two daughters, Hnoss and Gersemi. Along with her brother Freyr ( “Lord”), her father Njörðr, and her mother (Njörðr’s sister, unnamed in sources), she is a member of the Vanir ( a group of gods associated with fertility, wisdom and the ability to see the future).

Freyja rules over her heavenly afterlife field Fólkvangr and there receives half of those that die in battle, whereas the other half go to the god Odin’s hall, Valhalla.

Within Fólkvangr is her hall, Sessrúmnir. Freyja assists other deities by allowing them to use her feathered cloak, is invoked in matters of fertility and love, and is frequently sought after by powerful jötnar who wish to make her their wife.

Freyja’s husband, the god Óðr, is frequently absent. She cries tears of red gold for him, and searches for him under assumed names. Freyja has numerous names, including Gefn, Hörn, Mardöll, Sýr, Valfreyja, and Vanadís.

No god, but the Buddha got more ass than a toilet seat (well, before he rejected his life as a prince anyway).

Thor, Baldr, and Váli, are explicitly identified as sons of Odin in the Eddic poems

I don’t have a god, but if we are talking about the Abrahamic God he started life as El and had a consort named Asherah. They produced many gods and screwed around with humans as well. But by the time he had been adopted by the Jews as Elohim morphing into Yahweh, he had become a sex obsessed hater of nakedness and the flesh to hear him tell it. Still, the Torah speaks of the Sons of God having sex with the daughters of men. Perhaps he had perfected asexual reproduction, or though he forgot to mention an important fact like being 3 persons but just one, the three of them had some way to couple and reproduce. Anyway, the bottom line (no pun intended) is he must have been around the block a time or two before he became such a bluenose.

@MadMadMax I love how you just pulled that off of wiki….

And to answer the OP, I have no clue but I’d imagine the greatest engineer of all time might have a way of working around the whole physicalness thing

@pleiades Please mind your own business. This the second time I read you hit me up for forgetting to write the word wikipedia – yet its so obvious and in quotes. Lighten up will ya.

I think this is more about religion and less about my failure to make a notation.
