What is it like to own a microbus?

I was looking at some pictures of the mini vans from Volkswagen and I was just thinking out of the box. I think it would be pretty cool to own one of those vans for personal use. Is it harder to maintain than other vehicles? Is it better than a car or pickup? Do any of you guys own one or have owned one? If yes, what was it like?

I didn’t realize they were still around. They were very big in the late 60s and early 70s, but I thought they had mostly disappeared or rotted from rust.
I was a passenger in some back then. They had no suspension to speak of – you would bounce and feel every bump in the road. I always heard that the engines were underpowered for the size.
But they were iconic for their time.
They only just stopped production in Mexico at the end of 2013.
A well-maintained classic bus is worth big bucks – especially the campers. The Beetles and the bus have been notoriously easy to maintain, which was why they were so popular for so long. I’d guess that finding parts is the biggest challenge nowadays, but with an enthusiastic fan base they’re around.
There are VW Clubs and events all over – I’m sure you’ll find some near you, as well as busy forums on the web for collectors and tinkerers.
I am seeing modern day ones, does anyone own or have experience with any of them?
The only time I’ve ever heard mention of the word microbus was in the song “Convoy”
“Eleven long-haired friends of Jesus in a chartreuse microbus.”
It makes your testicles tingle.
