How do you feel about fracking? Is there fracking in your area and has it affected your water supply yet?

Asked by jca (36062points) February 4th, 2014

Is there fracking allowed in your area (where you live or work)? Has it affected your water supply yet?

Do you think fracking is a good thing? If not, have you contacted local politicians and expressed your concern about it?

I’m in the boat with you. NYS has banned it for now. But somehow the idea of injecting diesel fuel, chemicals, and other crap into my land doesn’t really thrill me.

I think fracking is a short-sided solution that will cause more harm than good.

I think there should be more and better environmental studies done on fracking to make sure it is as safe as the oil companies claim it to be.

@Rarebear Interesting YouTube clip,if it’s not all propaganda on the oil companies part.

@SQUEEKY2 Not propaganda at all. Brian Dunning is a source I trust. http://www.skeptoid.com

We have not had fracking in NJ that I am aware of, but I have read many articles stating that local water supplies have been contaminated due to fracking.
I feel like the risk/reward to what I know of fracking is not worth it.
People say that future wars will be fought over water. Do we want to speed up that process?
Does anyone know what purpose this gas serves inside the earth? There have been reports of earthquakes due to fracking.

I am an electrical contractor with a focus on sustainable practices such as solar PV and EV Charging Stations. I would much rather see more focus in these areas, as well breaking down the grid into “micro-grids” amongst communities, not because of the financial benefits in my field of work, but because I believe that we have the ability to produce energy on a local level, eliminating the energy monopolies that we currently have.

@Adirondackwannabe Really? This is where I had to learn the difference.
