There are always some topics which fuel controversy. Nowadays, it is mainly things like gay marriage, gun control, abortion, immigration reform, and marijuana legalization. Those are what come to my mind immediately, but there’s a whole ton of other issues unmentioned here.
Out of all of the various debates, which topics do you feel most passionately about? Which one makes you want to be an activist?

Sad to say, I cannot think of a single thing I am “passionate” about.
Jes’ cruisin’ thru life, an’ hopin’ for the best
Breed Specific Legislation. I do not believe in banning entire breeds of dogs based on the actions of a few, actions which are usually down to the humans at the other end of the lead. I strongly agree with harsher consequences for those that own Pit Bulls etc and deliberately raise them to be aggressive in order to maintain their own “statuses” but I do not agree with banning everyone from owning them as, in the right hands, they are wonderful dogs. To my mind banning something rarely makes it go away, instead it makes it more appealing to the wrong kinds of people.
Gay Marriage and Gun Control certainly top my list, but I’m most passionate about Adoption.
IMO, many more people should adopt. It burns my bagel to see someone endlessly trying to get pregnant (unsuccessfully) yet never seriously considering adoption. Or breeder types pumping out kid after kid when there’s thousands of children without homes.
If I were King Cookieman, I would declare the following: If you wish to become a parent, and cannot do so naturally – you must adopt and if you wish to become a parent and can do so naturally, your second child must be adopted.
But alas, I am not king.
The way we treat kids. Also, covert racism, all discriminatiom against gays, and animal abuse.
Dwarf throwing, still campaigning for it’s Olympic status…#nevergiveup #givethepeoplewhattheywant
The topic which SHOULD be controversial is the rather glaring decline in reasoning abilities on the part of the American public and body politic. This coupled with the accelerating collapse of quality journalism leaves us defined as a nation of empty headed dolts, easily sold an increasingly defective bill of goods. The growing divisiveness in the country over issues advocated that CLEARLY defy basic logic is an alarming indication as to just how far the rot in reasoning has been allowed to infect our society. The problem actually threatens the very viability of the country.
In the public policy domain:
Limiting the influence of money in politics
Reining in the gun culture
Rationalizing our health care system (see number one above)
Humanizing our immigration policy
Ending discrimination
Ending capital punishment
Outside the public policy domain:
Discovering all the ways I fool myself
The way the poor & mentally ill are treated in the US, anti LGBT mindset, child & animal abuse.
Our Government specific to our Constitution, what or who is God, gun control, and the life force of the Universe. Have had some really stimulating discussions on these topics.
Gay marriage, abortion, anything involving animals, and occasionally religion (depending on the topic).
Gun control, but I tend not to bring up it up anymore on Fluther.
Climate change
Persecution of gender non-conforming people
Understanding and treatment of mental illness
Funding for the public good
Gun control and the reduction of violent crime
Poverty and homelessness.
Wait, more than Vikings?!
Well no, but I didn’t think Vikings were controversial. :p
Try saying that in Green Bay
Haha, they don’t like Vikings over there? Or do they have something against the Minnesota Vikings or what?
A few hard feelings there, yeah.
I don’t know nothing about football, I just like the one team because of the cool Viking logo. although seeing a Viking without a beard is a bit disconcerting, but eh, he looks badass.
The death penalty and whether they should allow any more marshmallow types in Luck Charms.
Lack of concern from society in general for many of the social problems affecting boys and men along with other gender related issues. The prison rape epidemic also concerns me since anybody can end up going to jail or even prison. Religious intolerance along with discrimination based upon belief or lack of. Political correctness in science and false scepticism. Marijuana legalization is a very important issue to me too, and I strongly support allowing medical marijuana to be used by chronically ill patients.
Bias in mainstream science against the ‘paranormal’, especially when magazines like Scientific American allow people like Michael Shermer to write one side of the story, but yet not include opposing opinions from respected scientists and scholars on the same topics. Why don’t magazines like these allow experts on the other side of the issue such as Pin Van Lommel and others to present their cases? Talking about survival of death in a scientific manner is also banned in Great Britian, but yet the religionists and sceptics are allowed to openly present their cases.
Philosophy and belief systems are top-rated.
The universal rejection of anything different.
