How much do you care if your actions are morally right?

I very much do care, yes. Generally, I care more if my actions affect living things.

I have done many things that were legally and morally wrong and paid dearly for each and every one of them…except one. ;)

@Hypocrisy_Central – For this discussion, let’s assume it’s whatever moral code or intuitions you happen to follow. This could be any number of secular ethical systems or even what is described as morality in religious terms.

I’m used to people providing some explanation of why their actions are justified. But I was caught off guard in that file sharing thread by some who were engaging in an activity that they knew was wrong, but didn’t care. I’m not sure if it’s amorality or something else.

So, to be clear – do you do something that is morally wrong within your accepted moral system, but you are completely ok with that? And if so, how often does this happen? Or is are you entirely disinterested in the concept of right/wrong?

I don’t do anything that’s close enough to the line to be debatable.

No, in that respect, there is nothing I would be happy with or OK ignoring.

I don’t give a shit. I don’t hurt nobody and I keep to myself. Good enough.

I am generally concerned that my actions do not harm others in any way. I believe in doing what’s “right” based on my moral compass.

That being said. I’m no Pollyanna. I understand we live in a world that is not black and white. I’m very aware of the grey areas.

I care to keep my conscience clean, because I prefer to get a good night’s sleep.

I care about being able to live with myself… That’s not always easy, so I won’t make it harder by not living up to my standards.

One thing does come to mind, though: Sometimes I don’t pay attention when people lend me money. My conscience tells me I should stay on top of that and pay people back without them having to ask. OTOH, we’re talking about small amounts (ten – fifteen $) mostly, and these are people that haven’t always paid me back, either. That’s how I justify it.

Personally I have a certain moral code that I live by. I don’t find that a problem since it is what I actually believe in and I’m true to myself. If people don’t like my moral code and give me a hard time about it, I just write them off. no great loss.

I always try my best to do what I think is right and fair even if it’s extremely hard for me. And I walk my talk. :)
