Shall we bid a fond farewell to Ralph Waite, actor best know for his role as the father on TV's "The Walton's"?

A child in the 70’s, I grew up with the Walton kids, and John Walton was a striking contrast to my own rather cold, hands-off father.
From CNN:“Acting was only one aspect of Mr. Waite’s life. He was at various times a Marine, a social worker, an ordained Presbyterian minister, a book editor and a three-time Democratic candidate for Congress from California.”
Thanks, Ralph Waite, for many hours of wholesome entertainment.
RIP

RIP, and Good Night Johnboy. We’re losing em left and right it seems.
I loved the Waltons and Little House on the Prairie. Ralph Waite and Michael Landon. Pa and Paw. Two great TV Dads.
Awww..and everyone else this week, celebrity cull week.
Shirley Temple, Syd Caesar too.
Goodnight Waltons.
He was wonderful as Pa Walton. Recently he’s been great playing Jethro Gibbs’s father on NCIS. He seemed like such a sweet man. Going to miss you, Ralph Waite.
I heard the NCIS connection since.
Agreed, @Kardamom.
Crap. John Walton Sr. dies, and there’s no more outpouring than THAT?
@ibstubro The Waltons ended in 1981, that’s 33 years ago. And it was only old people and kids who watched it then, not those of us in our late fifties/early sixties. On top of that, he was a relatively minor character, compared to Richard Thomas, Will Geer, Michael Learned. Pa was always too damn busy running the farm.
I always liked the Walton’s, not only was he a solid actor Ralph Waite also directed several episodes of the Walton’s. i always considered it to be the cream of the crop out of all the prime time shows from the big three networks during that era.
I loved ‘daddy’ John.
I loved how he was available to the kids, affectionate, fair-minded/ good ole boy, used to be a little wild as a young man, a hard-worker, etc… I wished he was my dad growing up.
Me too, @KNOWITALL. It was so heartbreaking when another job fell through, but Olivia always bucked him up. Well, up until she started having her ‘spells’ which is about the time I stopped watching. That and Gramma having her stroke in real life and continuing on the series – I’d never liked the character and being reminded that she was a real person was discomforting.
The theme song still gives me warm-fuzzies.
Yes, there’s re-runs on all the time, we still watch sometimes…lol
We can imageine him up on the mountain with gpa Zeb now. :)
