Do you feel like a child of the world, like a global citizen? Do you feel like the things happening in the world, for example the riots in Ukraine, the war in the Central African Republic, the war in Syria, the riots in Venezuela etc. are connected to you? Do you feel a responsibility for the state of the world? Or do you feel like all this has got nothing to do with you?

I watch the news and all the good and terrible things that go on in other parts of our planet. I know we live in a global economy now and things around the world do impact some aspects of my life. But I don’t feel attached to world events when there are equally important things to attach to right here were I live that affect me in a greater way each and every day.
I feel bad for the people going through that kind of turmoil. But I would go crazy if I focused on that instead of my own life.
I do feel connected to the world. As far as responsibility and doing something about bad things happening elsewhere, I wish I could say I did more, but I don’t. I do feel connected enough that when I see bad things happening I feel like that could happen here, anywhere. I think a lot of Americans felt immune until 9/11 regarding terrorism, I never did. I see a natural disaster and know disasters happen everywhere. I think people around the world are more alike than not. If you interact with people from everywhere the world feels so small. Esoecially if you travel a lot. Even more so I think if you have moved from one country to another yourself.
Well i’m not incontinent.
One of my beliefs/opinions is that humans have a responsibility to look out for each other. Yes it’s naieve and not how things work, but we’re literally alone on this planet and no one else is going to do it for us. A human that hasn’t been raised by sociopaths should feel sympathy for anyone struggling or in pain.
Since I was a small child I’ve been strangely affected by the world’s problems, and taken it very personally.
I used to be very effected by the state of affairs in the world but had to let go of my codependent issues. I believe we can only do what we can do on an individual basis and that every little thing counts, it does not have to be big stuff. We are all free to pick and choose what we want to do and there is no right/wrong dichotomy involved.
Maybe you recycle every little scrap of paper and I rescue ducks and geese.
Is one any more important than the other? No. Both are acts of good will and concern for the world and it’s inhabitants. The worst thing we can do as a species is further create division by insisting that everyone must do a particular thing.
You do what you do and I will do what I do.
I have been very aware of world politics since I was young, as my family moved quite a bit all over the globe. And it pains me to see people struggling for what we take for granted in the US. So I strive to be aware of what’s going on, and support people struggling for self determination no matter where.
Yes and no.
On the one hand, I acknowledge that I am part of the human race, as are those that do either great good or great evil; the actions of those anywhere in the world affects my perceptions of our species in general, myself included. That gives me a wider scope of vision than many. Considering how limited my view is, that actually saddens me.
On the other hand, what happens here has a more direct effect on me, and given how influential we are in the world, paying attention to things happening here and now gives me a better idea of what the world is going to be in the future.
If you don’t look both near and far, you’ll always be at least half blind.
Yes, I don’t believe in them and us. There is only us.
