Do you sometimes watch movies just because actors you like are in them?
Just found this movie called Alien Apocalypse. I think it was one of those to TV movies, and apparently it pretty much sucks. But it has Bruce Campbell and Renee O’Connor playing in it, so I’m sold.
Another example is the Boogeyman series. Being a fan of horror, of course I wanted to see them. But if I didn’t like horror, I would have watched those anyway because Lucy Lawless and Renee O’Connor played in part one and two.
I usually don’t do stuff like that, but I’m madly in love with the Xena crew, haha.
Does this happen to you sometimes? Are there examples?

I watched Ronin 47 because Keanu Reeves was in it.
Was the movie good? Trailer looked awesome, anyway. But all trailers look awesome
Was the movie good?
No. Unfortunately, it was not good.
Yes, often. I love Lucy Lawless.
I will be more likely to watch a movie that otherwise sounds crappy if an actor I like is in it.
I am more likely to not watch a movie that seems potentially interesting if it has an actor I dislike (e.g., Tom Cruise, Nicholas Cage)
I tend to do this with anything Ed O’Neill played in, whether on film or for tv. No matter what though, Ed will always be Al Bundy to me, even though I think he’s a very good actor in other areas.
I will be more interested in watching a movie if I find out an actor I like is in it, but I’ll still read reviews first. If it turns out shitty, I won’t watch even if there is an actor I like in it. IE I like Johnny Depp but I don’t see me ever watching Dark Shadows.
I also really like Sam Rockwell and Edward Norton.
When I was over on RT grabbing the link for Dark Shadows I came across this trailer , it looks fuckin awesome.
Absolutely not, the movie is everything & if any of my fave actors is in it then that’s just a bonus.
@ucme True, but there is a sense with some actors that they will only take good roles (IE the opposite of Nick Cage) so you can sometimes get a sense going in that because X is in this movie it should be pretty good.
Sometimes. That’s why I watched Death to Smoochy the first time. Danny DeVito, Robin Williams, Edward Norton, Catherine Keener, and Jon Stewart. It’s a great movie as long as you don’t take it more seriously than it takes itself.
Yes. As an example I will watch almost any movie with Bruce Campbell in it as I loved his work in the Evil Dead series.
@uberbatman Nah, I don’t buy it, every actor has at least one turkey on their CV & therefore implicit trust in a name is not for me.
Well I watched Gravity with great anticipation because Sandra Bullock & George Clooney were in it. I was sorely disappointed.
I’d watch anything with Will Smith in it, although I’ve been disappointed a few times.
@Cruiser Then, have you seen Alien Apocalypse? Any good? Gonna watch it tonight.
No @Symbeline I have not. It looks like typical campy Campbell and will have to check it out too!
A lot of times. A lot of times. Saw Tom Hanks for the first time in college in Splash. Went back to the movie house 8 times to watch him romance a mermaid. Since then I pretty much followed his career.
Pretty much a kid of the 80’s so I also follow Harrison Ford. I’m ecstatic I will get to see him play Han Solo again. I love Tom Selleck as well and hoping his Jesse Stone TV series is brought back.
@Symbeline This scene is more than a rip-off of Army of Darkness. Looks hysterical! lol
@Cruiser Yeah, can’t wait to see how crappy this is lol.
Well, I recently watched Cowboys and Aliens when I came across it on TV, because it had Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, and Keith Carradine in it.
@ccrow Haha that movie was awesome.
My mom does. She loves Matthew McConaughey.
Who doesn’t love Matthew McConaughey?
Bill Macy and Felicity Huffman sprang to my mind. Intelligent comic geniuses, both, to my mind. They are both so expressive , yet guilelessly intuitive when in character. You never know when one of them is going to smack you up-side the head and make you “Huh? Wha…”. Valedictorian class clowns.
Hello, Hugh Grant chick-flick.
I have done this a few times and the results have been good and bad with different movies.
Just finished watching Alien Apocalypse. Zomg that was fucking terrible. It’s one of those science fiction movies that doesn’t have that much science in it, so it looks like a fantasy movie instead. It was BAD. But if you like bad movies and find them charming in their own way, this did kick ass lol.
@Symbeline You described that trailer I watched yesterday to a “T” and so eloquently too! I think a second career as a B movie reviewer is in the cards for you! ;)
“if you like bad movies and find them charming in their own way, this did kick ass”
~@Symbeline
Alien Apocalypse is pretty cool. Bruce Campbell long since gave up any hope of being cast in a non “B” movie, despite his role in Burn Notice.
I do go to movies sometimes dependent on the star cast in it. But I also tend to read reviews first and I will avoid some if they get universally bad reviews.
Yes, if an actor starred in several moviess I liked, he is likely to appear in more I will like.
