No!!! Please, No!!!
They should not be crushed. Nor shold the be “stolen” and end up in the hands of some big timers who will sell them for millions when the market takes a dip.
It would be wonderful if Chrysler donated them to car museums – who could then sell them at a fair price to collectors. The money would go to help fund the museum or to acquire other classics.
Doing so would likely absolve Chrysler of the risk of being sued and put the onus on the museums which presumably have smaller pockets and are less “ambulance chaser” worthy. .
If you think no….don’t do it like I do then why not sign the petition to let Chrysler know how crummy of an idea this is.
Done it already. I was number 4082.
There are so many alternatives. They really must not be crushed.
NOOOOOO! I was crushed myself when I read that. When I was in high school I subscribed to Car and Driver because every issue had the Viper in it. It’s my dream car. I’ve had the pleasure of driving two of them… When they were brand new on the market. What a sexy car. This is devastating.
Every car on the market has been involved in a crash. Ever heard of driver error? I hope they reconsider.
Thanks for the petition link, @Cruiser. If I used social media I’d paste it everywhere!
They should at least give one to Jay Leno.
This is purely uninformed conjecture. I can see two possible reasons.
1) They got an emissions waiver from the EPA by stating the cars were for test only and would never be on the road. If they sell them they can no longer be sure the cars stay off the road.
2) They made these vehicles without the typical safety features: ABS and who knows what else. If someone gets killed, a PIA lawyer can say Chrysler knew the car was unsafe but sold it anyway. Give the family of the drunk driver piloting the craft at 140 mph $80 million for pain a suffering.
Donating them to a museum will address both the above issues.
