General Question

Right now my vision is pulsating slightly up and down, almost twitching. My eyes aren't actually moving, and I can't find anything on google about it. It happens every six months or so. Any idea what it is or what to do?

Asked by stevenb (3836points) July 1st, 2008 from iPhone

It is worse at distances, and even in periferal(sp) vision. I don’t understand where it comes from. It has been 15 minutes so far. Please help flutherites!

Could be a blood vessel in your eye, maybe a blood clot? Try checking with an eye doctor

Ditto. Don’t trust your vision with a bunch of laypeople such as us.

I think I know what you have , I had twitching of an eye/s few times too, especially after my eyes were tired and had my contact lenses quite a long time on. I heard it’s just twitching of eye muscles that’s all nothing serious. It shall pass with sleep or a quick nap.

Is it accompanied by any dizziness? If so, it could be BPPV.

Is it the actual eyeball or eyelid twitching? My eyelid twitches (as SeVen said) when I am tired. If this is the case, turn the computer off and get some sleep. My massage therapist also recommended taking your pointer finger, placing it at the outside edge of your eye and pulling (ever so slightly) for 30–60 seconds and release. Repeat as necessary.
If it is the eyeball, see a doctor ASAP.

I would agree with the above comments. This is one of those times to seek medical care. Possibilities include migraine headache, optic neuritis, scotoma, and many more.

Thank you all for the answers! It comes and goes without any sort of stimulus. It unfortunately goes away the same way. It is gone now, but next time it pops up I will try to have my wife take me to the eye doc. I just can never get to him when it is going on, and he can’t diagnose what I describe to him second hand. It is an odd feeling.

Steve. You might still benefit from a thorough opthomologic and internal medicine evaluation. Some tests might still be in order.

Thanks shilolo. I will get one.
