@Cruiser @Hypocrisy_Central I have to say I agree with you.
This time we agree, tomorrow we may not agree. We do not agree on everything, but what good is it for me to attack you because you don’t agree with me? I think it is your level-headedness that is one of the reason you raised such fine young men.
We are all grown ups or at least pretend to be and should with grace and ease handle personal attacks but I cannot discount the fact that so many Jellies have left Fluther all because of this quickness to levy personal attacks.
People do bury their heads in the sand to not admit it happens, and far too often; after all, Fluther is supposed to be better than AB, YA, and Askville. If the shank grinding is not any better, then it can’t be claimed unless you just ignore that it happens.
There are a couple nostalgic threads here as of late that reference past revered Jellies who I know first hand many have left because of this penchant to personally attack them and others
I can recall as well, I know some would have wished I would join them; but that day is not today. II am surely not staying here to prove any point, I have a personal goal I told myself I want to reach, and when I do, some will get their wish and never have to scoff at a post of mine again.
@ibstubro Okay, honestly, when is the last time you saw that happen here on Fluther. I joined and participated for a while, then drifted off. Some years later I stopped back in and there were a few non-mods dominating the site so badly that I only stayed a day or two. Another ‘years later’ and Askville slammed the door on us, so I came back to Fluther. It was uncomfortable and I felt like my every post was scrutinized and/or openly attacked
I can’t say the last time I seen that here in that way, but I have seen way too many Flutheronians ran out of town on a rail. I have seen some who got pounced and tag teamed about every time they made a post. Many might not remember because they often never lasted long.
@whitenoise You often put words in my mouth or respond to my posts without – seemingly – properly reading them, though.
If that is what you think I am doing to you, let me apologize. The next time I respond to a post or comment you make I will make sure I word it as such not to seem to have you saying you said something you didn’t; I don’t time it and way too many people do that to me. I read them, that is why I have to ask further about them, I guess I do not understand it clearly because it is not direct or covers complete the point you are trying to make; but I will work on that even.
That in itself is quite insulting to me.
I guess people will find different things insulting to them. I think it is insulting if you can’t give a person the common decency to answer their question in the parameters they asked it. It is either one did not bother to read it fully or simply did not care and want to answer the question their way as if the way the question was posted was faulty.
One can be very insulting, without using foul language.
Isn’t it all in how one takes it? Someone can say, ”Burger flippers would be better off if they went to school to learn something to become rich, make something of their lives”. Someone might see it as a truth that you can’t really live of the wages of a burger flipper so reinventing themselves is a necessity, another person might look at it as an elitist putdown by someone who has a high paying career and a degree, as if the it was being said the burger flipper was wasting their life not having a degree.
Every time someone pretends to be morally superior, they put down the people they imply to be superior to. That is quite insulting to me too.
First off, if you know, and believe in your moral standard, what anyone else has to say of them is of no consequence. What I find insulting is people who believe their morality is superior than another when by their standards it is all man created and thus no better than the person they are trying to say is immoral simply because they are doing something different than the masses; that just reeks of hypocrisy. News flash, everyone points to someone who they believe has less morals then them, I guess everyone is morally superior to someone in that respect.
