Anyone know a really simple pasta recipe?

Asked by Tank8131 (106points) July 11th, 2007

I'm hungry. I've got some penne, and tomato & basil pasta sauce....any ideas? I'm sure there are some spices around too. I'd have to look though...I'm house sitting and I invited someone over for a late-night dinner. He's cute! Help me!

okay, I found the spices. They're kinda scary. there's an abundance of rice too...all kinds of rice.

Oh, geez - not a lot to work with. You got fresh garlic there? Any other veggies in the house? A failed attempt with limited ingredients may be endearing and then take-out may be in your future.

Sautee some onions and garlic for a few minutes, add in some veggies...then add in your pasta sauce. Simmer for a bit, maybe add a dollop of wine, some brown sugar and a dash of cinnamon.

You can also add breadcrumbs if you have them for a little texture variety.

There's one garlic bulb thing in the refrigerator...

figbash's avatar

Absolutely - start chopping that up, look for other veggies (zucchini?) locate the wine stash and go with Andrew's suggestion. Any chance there's stuff for a salad?

Salad?!?! I can't handle pasta AND salad.

The garlic and onion. How small should the peices be? And what do I sautee them in? Water? Wine? Fat? I'm no cook... :)

I googled it...oil?

Do you have olive oil?

Tank8131's avatar

Has to be somewhere.

Extra virgin okay?

andrew's avatar

You want to mince the garlic (think pieces half the size of an eraser). Cut the onion into small pieces, maybe the size of an m&m. Sautee the garlic for a couple minutes on medium heat, then throw on the onions until they just start turning translucent.

Extra virgin is exactly what you want.

Make sure you do all your chopping first, before the cooking, so you dohn't get overwhelmed.

Thank you guys! so much.

Should I use a whole onion?

andrew's avatar

For two of you? No... just use half, maybe. It's just going to compliment the sauce.

Also, after you simmer the pasta sauce, add some oregeno and basil to taste in the sauce.

Also, if you can, get hossman to tell you a recipe for pasta sauce. His is the best.

oh crud...I mistook that peach to be an onion... I don't have any onions..lol Take out anyone? or can I still salvage?

figbash's avatar

I say you can still salvage it! Especially if you have the other items.

It's coming along swimmingly. Had to nix the onion...looked too fast and thought I saw an onion but it was a peach. Figures....it was funny though. I just started laughing.

We'll see how this turns out. Thank you guys :)
