When a Jelly changes their name, is the old name put in their profile?

Asked by jca (36062points) April 7th, 2014

I thought I heard from a previous moderator that when a Jelly changes their name, Fluther usually will put their old name in their profile for a while.

Is this still a practice?

I have never seen that and I think most Jellies who change their name do it because they want distance from the old name for some reason.

There’s no policy to that effect. I’ve seen reincarnated members do that voluntarily, but I can’t think of any instance where anyone but the user him/herself puts anything on a profile.

Do they change their names, of just open another account? I can’t imagine trying to administer a policy of posted an older name on a new persona. Better to just trust and then bust.

If anything like this has happened, then it is probably a technical glitch.

Perhaps you are confusing it with what you see on threads. The @[Jellyname] stays the same, but the username on the bottom left changes to the new name.

We do not put usernames in profiles when users change their names. The moderators go with the wishes of the jelly. If they don’t want everyone knowing who they are, we don’t tell. If they want to post it in their profile, that’s ok too.

Profiles are written by the jelly. If he wants to write “formerly so and so” then he may.
