Why do they use this phrase? Last time I checked, babies wake up crying every two hours or so in the middle of the night. Certainly, that’s not what the person means when they say they’re going to “sleep like a baby”.

Have u ever seen a baby sleeping??? They look so peaceful…
Also, after a while, babies can sleep for a long time, uninterrupted. Some are known to sleep for more than 12 hours at a pop, and look so cute while doing it…
Babies sleep peacefully because they don’t have to worry about a thing. Even when they do wake up crying, their every want and need is taken care of for them.
I agree with scamp. The phrase means to sleep as if you were completely innocent and had no cares and nothing on your mind.
