Anyone willing to participate in a research study I'm conducting?

Asked by El_Cadejo (34610points) April 11th, 2014

I need to do a research project for school, so I decided to do a study to determine if certain tones can affect mental states.

The study is structured in a way that participants fill out a short survey, listen to a 7 minute clip and then fill out the same survey again.

I’ve been conducting the survey on campus as well, but, I’m getting results from people age 18–23 in just my area so I thought it’d make a much more convincing study if I could get a wider demographic of people.

To participate the only thing you would be required to have is a pair of headphones capable of playing a different tone in each ear(most headphones do this, but if you’re unsure we can test them to find out.)

If anyone is interested please send me a PM with your email information and I will send you the appropriate files.

I’m afraid I could not be a useful test subject for you. I suffer from tinnitis, which means I am bothered every moment of my life with unpleasant sounds; buzzing, chirping, tones.
Sorry.

I’m game. I take stupid surveys all day long anyway, might as well take one that has a point, haha.

I’m pretty sure studies have been done on chords – such as major vs. minor chords; but competing tones is different. What about folks with Auditory Processing disorders that don’t process and separate competing binaural input? Hearkat @gmail is where you can send the info, please.

Thank you everyone who has agreed to help me with this :)

@hearkat I would assume that if one could not differentiate competing binaural inputs then it would have no effect on them. Then again I don’t know that much about how our hearing works.

Different sounds in each ear tends to give me vertigo :p

like @Seek I’m game. I somehow got on Nielson and You.gov so I’m VERY used to surveys.
;oP

@GracieT Thanks, just send me a PM with your email address and I’ll send the files to you.

All files have now been emailed to those who PMd me their address.

I’m just having a hard time downloading the file – my internet connection is through a phone and I don’t get great service. Will do ASAP, have laptop will travel. ^_^

@Seek Would it be easier for you if I uploaded it to youtube?

Seek's avatar

If it wouldn’t affect your study, yes, it would.

@Seek It will work just the same as long as you still use headphones. I’m uploading the file now so I’ll shoot you a PM with the link when it’s done.
