The way I see it, the same youthful ignorant stupidity that made him a murderer is the same thing that made him attempt suicide. In both situations, his youthful ignorance led him to rash quick fix solutions for the given situation.
Regardless, I’m not sure he deserves a quick out for the crime he committed. Might be best to keep him alive, let him mature enough to really understand and deal with the consequences of his actions. The murder victim’s family must live with this tragedy for the rest of their lives. I believe the murderer should at least share their fate, and possibly worse.
And who knows, in a perfect idealistic world, there is a glimmer of hope that this young man may come to some sort of repentance one day, enough to tell a story of his ignorant youthful terror, and perhaps his story would prevent another similar young man from committing the same offense in the future. Probably not. But why not try?
I mean really… who is really to blame here? The young murderer… Or the society that helped create the young murderer?

The law, for one. The same reason we try to save the lives of anyone that attempts suicide – incarcerated or not. The same reason prison officials don’t just kill prisoners on a whim because they “deserve it.” If the state decides the person deserves it, then it’ll be done, but only with an order and a pre-determined date and time of execution.
I don’t think he deserves it. There are convicted murderers that don’t feel any remorse for what they do. This suicide attempt makes me think the guy understands what he has done and it is eating him up.
I think they should keep him alive so he can live with the consequences and the guilt. Death is too easy.
@flip86 Regardless of if I felt remorse or not, had I just been given life without possibility of parole I would try to off myself, too.
@GloPro I don’t think that is all there is to it. There are plenty of convicted murderers with life sentences that don’t suicide.
Oh, I agree. There are also many levels of tolerance. If I knew I had to spend the rest of my days locked up I would crack almost immediately. He was incarcerated the whole trial, which lasted 6 months. He was found guilty late February, awaiting sentencing. He was sentenced Tuesday.
You want to stone him to death or better yet behead him ? That’ll show the world how great we are.
Keep him alive but eliminate all his senses. Let him be alone in his head with his thoughts.
