Are you asking about individual income tax, not about corporate or other entity tax?

Not only does California have an individual income tax, it has the most complicated and difficult system of any state. Most states begin with federal adjusted gross income, make a few adjustments, and be done with it; very fast and easy. California makes the taxpayer reconstruct income under its own rules and file voluminous forms.
