Why do I not seem to be improving on bar exercises?

Asked by LDRSHIP (1800points) April 20th, 2014

I don’t know if you are familiar with “BarStarzz” its on youtube if interested.

I’ve been working on form and even at gym I use the machine to add body weight if I can’t do proper form. But it feels like I am not improving that much.

We’re talking about pull ups? What is your weight?

@livelaughlove21 At moment 175lb give or take. Also recommend watching some videos for reference as to what I am aiming for.

It’s hard to say without watching you train. Some things to check though:

- Are you finishing off each muscle group after the main exercise? After you’re spent on pull-ups, do some seated pull-downs at 80% of your bodyweight, to spend the last remnants of energy in the same muscle groups. Do this to failure.
– Are you doing the full range of motion for each exercise? If you’re not doing pull-ups from a full hang, you won’t improve or gain size as effectively.
– Are you eating well? Remember you need fuel before AND after your workout.
– Are you still enthusiastic about your workout? Get yourself in a high intensity mental zone next time you go, and see if your performance improves.
