What have you invented lately?

Asked by ibstubro (18804points) April 29th, 2014

This isn’t really intended to be a ‘flight of fancy’ question as much as a question about a great idea that you’ve had that you don’t have the wherewithal to carry out.

This morning I took a dump and thought “Wouldn’t it be great if the exhaust was on the toilet rather than in the ceiling?”

I also have a great idea for compacting the paper towel waste in public restrooms.

Do you have an invention to share?

Not much, except for some crazy ideas for Fluther questions I would have done right now if I weren’t a few minutes ahead of my bedtime, and some ideas for my mob story…

Hey, I’m in the mood of starting a monologue about my mob story right now :D

Didn’t you see all of these jelly inventions from two days ago?

I have a serious invention to add. Magnetic toupees. Little tiny magnets inserted into the scalp (aren’t magnets good for realigning ions, too? This toupee will make you healthier) that line up with magnets in this line of toupees. Scared of boating? No more! Did your hair fall off in that last fist fight? Well, step back outside and give it another round, your hair will stay in place after a punch from Mike Tyson!

If anyone can help me develop this by allowing me to insert dermal implants on your shiny dome or donating hair, PM me.

This morning I took a dump

Lol thanks for sharing.

What I wish is someone would invent a glass picker. Like a type of vacuum, but for broken glass. Like when you break a plate on the ground and whatnot. You can broom up broken glass, but there’s always tiny shards you can’t see and might step on, or your pet could sniff them, so you need to get over with the vacuum after…they should invent some kind of glass sucker magnet thing that removes 100% of all broken glass.

Try using dampened cotton balls for picking up those almost invisible splinters of glass. A dampened paper towel works almost as well. Keep repeating until you can’t see any glints of glass on the cotton ball or towel. Then vac several times again.

I invented the first bit of Iconian r34 on rule34.paheal.net

Berserker's avatar

@gailcalled Hey good tip. Thanks, next time something gets broken, I’ll remember to do that.

A perpetual motion device.

Show me the NDNC form from everyone who will view this post, signed and notarized and i will gladly show you, it is genius.

@Symbeline Duct tape is good for picking up loose bits of material. I’ve never tried it with broken glass but it should work.

I made a site that uses googles API so I can search without being tracked. It only returns 8 results but that is enough 99% of the time.

@ibstubro “This morning I took a dump and thought “Wouldn’t it be great if the exhaust was on the toilet rather than in the ceiling?”—

That invention will never work until you realize that toilets are for leaving dumps, instead of taking dumps from. I think you should put the dump back where you got it right now.

ibstubro's avatar

No, I did not see those, @GloPro! I may have been busy or not opened your question because it was TV related and I do not have TV. I think magnetic toupees sound like a good idea, but I wonder about the skin compression? Perhaps different wigs with different strength magnets for different conditions? We probably need to brainstorm this with a physicist and a dermatologist.

Use a sticky lint roller @Symbeline, or just tape, sticky side out. Wrap it around an oven mitt? But I think your idea is to add something to glass that makes it magnetic? That would be cool for fridge magnets!

You have a perpetual motion device, @Dan_Lyons?

I’ve done it with broken glass, @flutherother, and it worked.

That’s keen, @johnpowell. Is it marketable?

“A dump was taken” this morning, @RealEyesRealizeRealLies, and I leave it at that.

Dan_Lyons's avatar

^^^ I have invented it, but it is not yet created.

Not an invention exactly, but a great new discovery for making grilled cheese sandwiches. You put the cheese between two bread slices and put that into a special little pouch that fits into the toaster slot. In the time it takes to make toast you have an excellent grilled cheese sandwich. I love cheese sandwiches but always dreaded the prep. Voila—problem solved.

ibstubro's avatar

I have seen that product, @Pachy, and thought it was genius if it worked. Now you’re telling me that is IS genius!

Pachy's avatar

Yeah, @ibstubro, I was leery, too, the product works quite well. Even puts little grill marks on the toast. Amazon has ‘em and they’re quite reasonably priced. They’re washable and reusable, too.

ibstubro's avatar

Ha, ha! @GloPro! I’d sooner buy @Pachy‘s bag and not take the chance. I have an antique toaster that’s fairly rare and pretty valuable. :)

A mini wind turbine for an electric vehicle. It could extend the range of these vehicles.

ibstubro's avatar

Wow. That sounds like a great idea, @Yetanotheruser. Honestly.

Strauss's avatar

@ibstubro If money were no object, I would take one of these, or something similar, and fit it with solar panels on top, and direct the wind generated by traveling, under the panels to the mini-wind turbine. This could all be done while maintaining the aerodynamic profile of the vehicle. Without any calculations, I would estimate increasing the range of the vehicle by about 25–50%, or from 200 miles to 250 or 300 miles.

Not bad for a motor home!

ibstubro's avatar

I’ll TAKE one, @Yetanotheruser. 200–300 one what? A battery charge?

Strauss's avatar

That is the range of the vehicle between long charges in service as a transit vehicle. Just using the 200–300 mile figure as a “f’‘rinstance”.

ibstubro's avatar

What would be cool, @Yetanotheruser, is if they could get the batteries dialed in to the point where they could be changed out as quickly as filling a gas tank. Perhaps quicker, if there was a way to drop the old one out the bottom while inserting a charged one from the rear/side.
