I am from St Aidan’s Anglican Church, where I was christened and sent to Sunday School; from satsang at the Divine Light Mission in Parnell; from charismatic Christian experiences, entered into as an adult and pursued for eighteen years before being abandoned in favour of reality.
I am from New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, The Netherlands, England; exotic raw mushroom salad and creamy fish soup, flecked with parsley and served with hot buttered toast; from the sugar-dusted cream-filled sponge cake and Mellowpuffs, served at weekly Sunday afternoon teas in the house overlooking the Tamaki estuary.
From Nana and Pa, who were not next in line to marry but married secretly until it was their ‘turn’ and they could safely let the cat out of the bag; from the mysterious siblings who preceded and followed me in the womb but miscarried before their time; from Poppa who, at the age of eight, drove a herd of cattle through the King Country backblocks single-handed.
I am from black and white ancestors collected between the pages of family albums and viewed with the eyes and fascination of a child; from the little 19th century birthday book, passed down through the paternal female line; from the Venetian glass vase filled with proteas; from snippets of long-past events, relayed via fragile memories; from people, unknown but no less influential for just having been.

I have friends that lived in NZ for several years, and they thought is was very cool. Almost as cool as @Adagio, it seems! I hope there’s a room in the mansion near by, should I get there.

My buddy from the Antipodes, Adagio has provided me with many wonderful suggestions for long-running TV series, among other provocative ideas.. She is selective about her appearances here but when she does show up, we benefit from her elegant brain and elegant way of expressing herself.

A glass to one of my most adaptive and gracious efriends. I love getting PM’s from her.

I saw this coming a couple of weeks ago. Congrats Adagio!

Wow, I’m not sure why but I’m so surprised by all your lovely comments, I guess I feel like somewhat of a wallflower on Fluther, but then I’ve always had that tendency. It’s taken me almost 5 years to get here, I did it without even trying but with the help of several people I imagine, I was finally kicked across the line yesterday and here I am, bottle of Port in hand and a hope there is a huge and lively open fire somewhere, a comfy old armchair to plonk myself down in next to it would be perfect, with armrests flat enough to rest to rest a glass on, and at least 3 people who are keen 500 players, it’s been a long time since I’ve played and I would love to pick it up again. Thank you all for your very kind words, I’m truly touched.

Cheers @Adagio a kinder and gentler jelly has yet to cross the 10K threshold.

@Cruiser Isn’t it strange the way we come across online, when you describe me as “kinder and gentler” I think, gosh, that’s not me, they are not words I would ever use to describe myself, intolerant yes but kind and gentle never, maybe I should let loose more of the real me on here, although I did not think I was holding anything back, maybe I have been……

I would like very much to indulge in some of that creamy fish soup. Do you have a recipe to share? Actually, from the way your profile reads, I’d like to have your life, but that is more greedy than I would care to be, so I will be satisfied with being happy for you, that life has been kind enough to bestow upon you some of its very best. I would humbly request instead the recipe for your soup.
By the way, I do agree with others here, that you ought to come around more often. Perhaps if enough of us coax you?

I am so horribly late. I’ve been flitting around Fluther and Facebook for tho long I forgot to anther this questhion. Now let me stick my tongue back in my mouth and speak properly LOL.

I’m kind of glad it took you awhile to get here, because I’ve been busy in the kitchen preparing you a feast that will hopefully increase your appetite and give your sodium levels a boost.

Shall we start with a simple Broth and then maybe have some salted Edamame to go with that.
