Farm Table

or Farm to Table

You may be freighting it a little heavily to ask it to carry all of that. You really just want it to be evocative.

I like “Roots” and “Farm Table” best. How about just “Table?” Where’s your restaurant going to be? Maybe it could be xyz + restaurant name.

efenster's avatar

Wow – thank you all so much for this first blast of potential names. I don’t think we’ve got it yet from this list, but there are some very cool ones! I really like Entwine, Oasis, and many others.

we want to make sure not to sound too earthy, but bring the sound and feeling of nature, organic food and community through the name. it needs to be accessible. one we really like is Avani which is Earth in sanskrit. pretty word with deep meaning. we are currently playing with more than one word to open the field. trying to come up with something more snappy and fun like Stone Soup, or Edible Grove.

keep playing and we’ll see if we can’t come up with the final one. If someone gets it, we’ll be sure to send a gracious gift!

Thanks,
Eric

be sure to go with a one-word title as you select. example: notice most of the really well-attended restaurants in new york, chicago, atlanta are 1-word “eyecatchers” that speak volumes about what’s inside. you could call it “harold” or “tomato” or even “full” and for some odd reason, people will gravitate to it just because it evokes curiousity. some of the coolest trendiest dives in chicago are “one-name” restaurants. boil down all your nuances and come up with one word that says it all.

Common Earth

I like a man who can break his own rules. I like the sound of Avani, but I hardly think Sanskrit can be described as “accessible to a broad range of demographics,” but then being able to break those rules opens up your possibilities.

Avani sounds interesting, welcoming and unique.

efenster's avatar

very few people would actually know that Avani is Sanskrit until they read about it on the menu. the question is do we use a word that doesn’t conjure up an image of anything like Avani and just sounds inviting, or do we try to come up with a word or phrase that people recognize (like… Dandelion). problem with these is that everyone has an opinion on how it hits them. tough thing to pull off!

Harp's avatar

It sounds like you’re trying to evoke associations, in which case you’re going to have to use common vocabulary.

It’s All Good, Basil Rathbone’s, Garden of Eden, Onion Patch, Ocean Springs, Spring Valley, Paradise, Utopia, Good Eats (wait that’s taken), Flower Mound, Seabreeze, City Market, Country Market, Clouds, Morning Mist, Evening Mist, DuckNShuckIt (careful).

Hey, you said keep playing. Let me know if I get partial credit.

Zaku's avatar

Just personal feedback on a few of the great suggestions:

I want to go to someplace called “Flower Mound”! I am curious about what’s there…

I also want to go to Paradise, Utopia, and It’s All Good, but I will be disappointed and forever suspicious if anything is ever less than good. ;-)

Wildflower also sounds nice.
