Americans, what is your favorite food? Your comfort food? Some Common Dishes?
Yes, I see that this question has been asked before, in 2008. But tastes change. Maybe if you were here back then your answer today will be different.
Besides, we had this question today excluding US born citizens.
I know my comfort food is a cheeseburger with crispy fries and a chocolate milkshake yes whipped cream no cherries.

Macaroni and cheese.
A cheesburger.
Black-eyed peas.
Grits
Biscuits with butter and syrup.
(none of which I eat now)
I’d like pics please, i’ve no idea what biscuits are see.
Comfort foods:
– Linguine with meat sauce and melted mozzerella.
– Pizza
– Sesame pork roast (basically soy sauce, mushrooms and sesame seeds) with rice and French green beans.
– Chicken mushroom with rice. (I make a “homemade” version with cream of mushroom soup, extra mushrooms and a little orange juice, but anything similar like chicken a la king will do in a pinch)
– Chicken Captain (tomatoes, green pepper, onion, mushrooms, cinammon, nutmeg) served with pasta.
Favorite dishes I am eating a lot lately:
– Romaine salad with ginger dressing.
– Vegan sausage and egg white sandwich
– roasted veggies and rice.
– pasta primavera
@longgone I heard that in the voice of Woody from Toy Story
^ That’s how I said it ;)
Even if a question has been asked several years ago, I feel it’s always worth asking again because the Jellies here now are probably 80–90% different than the ones here five or six years ago.
For me, favorite comfort foods might be mac and cheese, chicken pot pie, roast chicken with rice and peas. Favorite food may be (and I say “may” because it’s flexible and always subject to my mood, the weather, etc.) steak or lasagna or something with shrimp in it. Favorite veggies maybe spinach or string beans (probably the latter). I really like fresh fruit – watermelon, peaches, plums, a good, ripe pear, a navel orange.
Favorite desserts – homemade apple pie or strawberry shortcake (real whip cream, not from a can, real strawberries, not that strawberry goo on commercially made cakes). Peach ice cream, rum raisin ice cream, chocolate chip mint ice cream, in hot weather. Otherwise I’m not too big on ice cream and I feel like it’s so lethal. Good bread and butter is definitely on list of fave comfort foods. Good quality sourdough bread is excellent.
Any of the above has to be in moderation, for me, or else it’s kind of “over the top” and disgusting if there’s too much or too often.
@ucme Biscuits and syrup (the original is cane syrup) were a Southern staple that my grandfather ate. On visits, I used to get up early in the morning and have some with him for breakfast..We used the leftover biscuits my grandmother had made the night before for dinner. The syrup, made from sugarcane, is dark and sweet and thicker than maple syrup.
@jca I didn’t even think of dessert, but since you mention it, my all time favorite dessert and cake is Mounds cake at TooJays Deli in FL. Just like the candy bar.
Nothing quite like a good cheeseburger. The best yet under-appreciated meals in the US are breakfast. Nothing quite like a great breakfast- fried eggs, good taste with butter and jam, maybe hash browns and maybe french toast or pancakes with maple syrup.
A hotdog, a Dr. Pepper and a Hostess cherry pie.
A peanut butter and jelly sandwich with chocolate milk and a Chunky.
Mud Pie (my recipe).
Spaghetti (also my recipe).
Favorite – Bacon, Sausage, Hamburger and Pineapple pizza, with Jalapeno’s.
Comfort food – Shepherds Pie
or Mashed Potatoes and peas in a pinch
@zenvelo I love breakfast. It is my favorite meal. Breakfast for supper. Yum!
Anything potato. Mashed, baked, double baked, fried, sweet, potato pancakes, scallops, julienne, fries, tater tots. My absolute favorite is potato pancakes with applesauce and sour cream.
Anything I can cook or smoke on a grill and my late Mother-in-law’s chicken/tortilla casserole.
Mix shredded, cooked chicken with sautéed onions, green chilies, and cream of chicken soup. Layer corn tortillas, chicken mixture, and sharp cheddar cheese in that order until you have two or three layers in a casserole dish. Top it with more corn tortillas and cheese and the bake it until it’s bubbly.
I have tinkered with the above recipe many, many times and it always turns out great but nothing compares to the simple bare bones way she would make it.
She always served a tossed, green salad on the side topped with green onions, kidney beans, and Western dressing.
Food I used to eat love and enjoy: chicken quesadilla’s, sushi, chicken and kidney bean salad cowboy dinners, lasagna, mac and cheese, chicken artichoke and feta pizza, thai curries.
Comfort food: sweet potato with nutmeg and butter, tomato soup with basil, salsa guac and bean dips for veggies and chips, zucchini boat filled with meat and sub some interesting cheese.
Common dishes: taco el pastor on lettuce instead of a wrap, vegie stir fries, bell peppers stuffed with burger and quinoa,
I like everything, except weird meats. haha
I’d have to say one of my favs. is a giant baked potato with the works, butter S&P, sour cream, but…the BEST, smothered in ranch or cucumber dressing.
I also love tacos and all mexican food and my own killer spaghetti sauce. Nothing like one of these on a cold, winter day when I want to feel cozy and comforted.
Otherwise, I am a candy girl, gimme chocolate and sometimes ice cream.
@Coloma Talking about candy, I am in Savannah (That’s Savannah, Georgia for our jellies who don’t live in America, known for their peaches, pecans, and Vidalia onions) and I read in a guidebook that I have to try the chocolate pecan pralines. I thought it was going to be a pecan praline dipped in chocolate, but no the candy sweet part is made with chocolate mixed in somehow. It was unbelievable! A regular praline might never suffice again. That might be a new comfort food. Oh, and the store had old time candies and they happen to have Peanut Chews, a blast from my past. My grandma used to buy peanut chews. I bought one.
@JLeslie Oooh…sounds heavenly, I also love salt water taffy. :-)
