Would you watch a television show about people watching television?

Asked by Hawaii_Jake (37734points) May 13th, 2014

Bravo TV has a new show called The People’s Couch. It’s a show showing people watching shows.

Are you interested?

Can you think of a premise for a show that would be sillier? Put on your imagination cap, and tell us what you can come up with.

I recently began watching Cosmos with host Neil deGrasse Tyson. Quite honestly before this series, I had not watched anything at all on television for probably fifteen or twenty years.

I often stare at Milo when he is facing a corner or a wall and staring at absolutely nothing.

Maybe. if the show on the television in that show is good, I’m for it.
Hell yeah, I’m watching a television show inside a television show :p

Sillier? Well, how about a show showing people sleep? Or eat?
Hey, why not make a show showing a person_daily activities?_ And by “daily activities” I mean “everything he/she does in real time”. Basically it will be from when he/she wakes up, gets dressed, eats breakfast, blah blah blah, to when he/she gets to bed again at night. And the whole cycle continues, in real time (“in real time” mean showing the exact time he/she does his/her daily activities, for example if he/she eats breakfast for 15 minutes then the part about eating breakfast will be 15 minutes).
Anyone who can’t sleep at night, it’s the show for you :p

No. I hate TV. I watch Netflix movies and PBS, sometimes Animal Planet and I do love “Tree house master”. That’s my venue. Sparse and always about learning, not mindless drivel.

No, I would not. I hate reality shows. And a reality show about watching TV sounds just about the worst of the worst.

The ”-Wars” format for reality shows seems to spawn some bad ones. On a recent Simpsons episode, there was a show called “Topiary Wars”. Now that would be ridiculous ;)

I’ll stick to Game of Thrones and Homeland thank you very much :)

I enjoyed Beavis and Butt-head. In effect I was watching two (cartoon) teenagers watching music videos on TV.

Sorry about that.

@Some_Ghost; Don’t be. It is very soothing. Do you take some responsibility? (Nice to see you again.)

Yes, we have one called Gogglebox & it’s often very funny.

No, I certainly wouldn’t. I find TV overall boring and full of all this horrible, horrible reality nonsense. It must be the cheap package I’m on? It’s either reality (Like I care if the Kardashians are doing this or that?) or horror at the moment.

So, watching a bunch of people watching TV, I’ll pass.

At the very least, it mimics a post-structuralist view of metanarratives.

I can understand how it’s easy to scoff at the idea, but having watched a couple minutes courtesy of the link, I can see some room for appeal. There’s a diversity of couch potatoes watching and reacting, and that means there’s someone up there who’s voice is similar to the viewer’s. So it’s a vehicle for some kind of validation for whomever is seeking it.

I used to watch MST3K, but somehow that’s better.

I think a sillier show would be something like Kitten Bowl voice dubbed with a soap opera script.

@gailcalled Well I do enjoy hanging out with cats every now and then. They are pleasant company. :)

I did like idiocracy but that is as close as I think I am every willing to get.
