Could ankle swelling and thigh pain be related?

My left ankle has been swollen by the end of the day for a few weeks now (starts out normal). I also just got a stabbing pain in the front inner thigh on the left leg. Could these be related, or just a coincidence. I believe the ankle swelling started the night we did relay for life. I noticed in the wee hours of the morning that my ankle was swollen. It has also been swollen almost every evening since then. The pain in my thigh was sudden onset and a sharp stabbing pain. I do have hip and knee problems as well that have been going on for about 12 years. Any help would be appreciated.

Ice the swollen ankle and make an appointment to see your doctor or an orthopedics specialist.
See a doc ASAP. We suck at medical issues on here.

Well, since de ankle bone connected to de shin bone and de shin bone connected to de knee bone and de knee bone connected to de thigh bone… then, yes, they could be related. And since de thigh bone connected to the hip bone, too… well, I’m not surprised. How are your toes feeling, by the way?
Musculo-skeletal issues like this are always related. That’s why we have invented physicians to help diagnose and treat those problems and relationships. I would recommend consulting with one. Or more.
Because it is only on one side, please see a doctor immediately to rule out a blood clot and related pedal edema.

You definitely want to have an MD evaluate this IN PERSON. You want to rule out the possibility of DVT (deep vein thrombosis).
I don’t want to alarm you unduly but you need to know that DVT can kill. Ten years ago, David Bloom was an NBC reporter embedded with troops in Iraq. This included the cramped quarters of a tank, sometimes 24/7. It wasn’t that long after he noticed the pain in one leg that he collapsed and died.
His wife has done everything possible since then to publicize the facts about DVT to hopefully prevent others from the same fate.
Don’t put this off. See an MD ASAP. if it turns out to be relatively minor, that’s OK ; at least you’ll be alive to tell about it.
