Does it suck if you have a medical alert braclet or is it good to know that crap?

Asked by Adirondackwannabe (36713points) May 19th, 2014

I’m looking at it and wondering if it’s good to have or just a signal my body hates me. I’m thinking it’s probably good but I’m just having some trouble with it.

If you need it, wear it and don’t worry about it.

Those medic alert bracelets have saved many many lives. My dad has one because he is extremely allergic to bee stings.
I know people who are diabetic whom the bracelet(s) have helped because their rescuers realized they were simply in insulin shock and administered orange juice to save them.

You’re so eloquent. :-)

Have you considered a necklace? It isn’t as visible and doesn’t snag on things. Just don’t get the chain too long and you won’t even know it’s there.

Side note, unless it’s for something potentially life threatening or medicinally dangerous to pair with other drugs the choice to wear one is up to you. Another option is to put a list of your meds and a brief medical history on your refrigerator, clearly labeled In case of emergency, med history. It would be amazing if everybody over the age of 50 did this.

I have mine on a necklace. I can just hide it in my shirt.
