How can I purchase a part of the CisLunar space?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) May 30th, 2014

The Cislunar space is the space between the Earth and the Moon. I would like to buy a $100 parcel of space and mark it off on a map somewhere. I would like my great grand daughter to open an antimatter mine and refilling station way point , in the next 100 years. http://www.fluther.com/158685/how-can-one-claim-or-locate-a-specific-part-of-outer/

I’m sure there are websites and business that will happily take your money in exchange for a slip of paper saying you own such and such parcel of Space, but you should be aware that such “deeds” have no legal standing and no nation or government recognizes any private ownership of Space.

@Seek That was lulz worthy.

@Darth_Algar Doesn’t Bill Gates own a part of the moon? Or is that just dumb rumors?

@Symbeline

Extremely dumb rumor.

If I remember correctly, I read that a treaty was written up during or soon after the Cold War which determined that no one was allowed to own the moon, mostly so no one could set up a lunar missile base to blow some other country to smithereens.

@Seek

And that’s probably why Russia never bothered with going to the Moon and why the US said “fuck it” just a few years later.

Right? What’s the good in having a satellite with a stable orbit if you can’t use it to blow shit up?
