How do you feel about Dustin Hoffman's realization regarding his character in the film, Tootsie?

It blows me away. And it makes me love Dustin Hoffman even more.

Reminds me of a quote from Laurence Olivier on the set of Marathon Man.
Hoffman’s character in the film was meant to have gone without sleep for three days & so, being a method actor, he did exactly that, deprived himself of sleep in order to look more realistic.
On hearing this, Olivier said to Hoffman, “why don’t you just try acting dear boy?”
Hoffman has since noted that the comment was tongue in cheek & in fact, the real reason he never slept was due to depression. He was going through a divorce at the time of filming & had been drowning his sorrows & this was why he turned up looking the worse for wear.
Either way, I love that quote, it shows a clear distinction between acting styles & it’s very funny too.

He’s a sweetheart but I tried to watch that super boring movie three times and could only take it for ten minutes.
