Mine is Pepino from the old comic strip Gordo.(comic_strip) When I was a kid I kinda identified with Pepino, his name is close to my own, and he looks a bit like I did.
Just changed it again from the purple butterfly, and now….ta daaaa… my cat Myles exact lookalike in board shorts. I get bored with avatars after a week or so, sometimes longer, I’m a change it up kinda gal. lol

I had an Avatar that I loved and used for many years on another site. A place something like this site but not really. sadly I had to give it up since I realized that too many people here would recognize me immediately since many of them are now here.
I just took the one assigned by this site but my heart will always be with my original one.

I like mine because it is easily identifiable. It’s somewhat bold and black and white, which makes it easy for me to find and hopefully, easy for others, too.
It’s the Kliban cat from the 1970’s cartoonist. When I was growing up, the Kliban cats were popular. I like cats, and it’s nostalgic for me, so it’s perfect.
My FB avatar is another popular cat, which I won’t discuss the origin of but again, speaks to my affection of cats.

My avatar has some technical difficulties, so I’m not sure which one you’re seeing. Everyone seems to see something different. And it changes back and forth between recent icons that I’ve had, on its own. All of them are just me.

This is a photo of the pond in the backyard. The koi are Desdemona and Iago. The water lilies are related to the ones our grandfather had in his concrete pond. When he died, my older sister removed them and put them in her pond. When mine was built, she gave me a couple of the plants.
The avatar has been temporarily changed a few times in response to an occasional Fluther thread.
It is a selfie I took a while ago.
It’s Spring, and while looking up for random butterfly pictures, I found this one that I liked. Just kind of random I suppose. I will revert back to some Xena or Viking avatar soon enough I suspect.
It is my husband’s toon from an MMO/RPG game we play together.
I have considered changing mine, but I’m a traditionalist, so I feel like it’s a part of me.
I briefly changed my avatar once to Vampire Kermit and Vincent Prince for Halloween in 2010—the year I joined. Aside from that, my avatar has always been Wembley from Fraggle Rock. I have a major fondness for the little guy, Steve Whitmire is one of my favourite performers, and I have always felt that if I were one of Jim Henson’s characters, then it would probably be Wembley (or Robin, or Scooter, but that’s another story).
Right now it’s me on a fishing trip. I like to be outdoors.
Sometimes I change it to a funny dog picture.
Sometimes I slip in a nice seasonal photo I’ve taken.
Mine is a beloved Cat who passed away shortly after this picture was taken. His brother is still with us, but there was something special about Rascal. We were pals.
My avatar here is my avatar in Second Life, and always has been since I joined Fluther. I change my avatar here anytime my Second Life avatar gets a significant update. Which reminds me – it’s due for a change now.
It’s a male osprey. It used to be a crow, sejant, sinister, before I went sailing, now it’s an osprey in flight, displayed, sinister. Nobody seems to be able to tell the difference, which is good because I won’t change my name. I’ve only changed it once, from crow to osprey, and probably never will again.
I’m not that creative. It’s my dog.
My Ex once said I reminded him of a penguin so that became a family meme. I have a collection of them. I am also a librarian and a reader so when I saw this little sketch years ago, I knew it would be my avatar. I’ve changed it a few times briefly to my grandson’s picture and then to Frodo’s but people complain because they can’t recognize me.
It’s Greyfriars Bobby’s statue in Edinburgh. Whenever I am in the city I have to visit Bobby, I feel lost if I don’t!
Mine is a double-chocolate cookie. I’ve only changed it once in six years because I accidentally deleted my original one (a chocolate chip cookie).

@janbb in a previous Fluther life I had a distinctive avatar; whenever I tried to change it I was asked to change back. In my time in that persona, I never changed my avatar, and only once made a slight change to the picture, I like variety, but it was cool that people recognized me by my avatar – kind of like that penguin reading a book always says janbb to me!

I have been anti-sock monkey for my entire life. This changed when my 10 year old daughter brought home the monkey pictured in my avatar.

Kristin Scott Thomas, an actor I much enjoy. Didn’t change my avatar for a long time when I first arrived and then it took my fancy to do so, usually black and white profiles of women whose work (whatever that may be) I respect, although sometimes I choose a male avatar and that’s kind of interesting and fun.

My current Avatar is in honor of community.

It was destroyed in the ratings for 5 years by the show opposite it, big bang theory. A show which made fun of people with High IQ’s.
I spilled sprinkles on a cupboard shelf, and liked the way they looked. I haven’t changed my avatar since. I like that it’s easily recognizable.
It took me half the thread to realize why you were counting answers.
When I first joined, my avatar was Rayman from Rayman Origins. I just loved that game at that time. Then I decided to change to something more feminine. I changed my avatar to Ayame from Power Stone, but it didn’t stay long since it didn’t seem to fit me. I changed to Ema Skye from Phoneix Wright: Ace Attorney. That was the most feminine avatar I have to admit, and stayed the longest.

I’ve always had this one here on Fluther. It’s an excerpt from a song I made years back. I took the line from my piece and styled it funky colors on Microsoft Paint a few years ago. I think I was 15 when I made the image. Since then, I’ve gotten a new computer and this icon is the only thing that remains from that computer. I remember being frustrated at how uncentered it was. I kept trying to readjust it, but I guess I ended up giving up and accepting its unevenness.
I argue that it’s the most easily identifiable avatar.
Butters, of course, from South Park, is a goody-goody, and far too trusting of others, as I am. I added the orange background, and put a breast cancer ribbon on it in support of a jelly named cak, who was quite sick from it.

I am on my fourth or fifth now. The latest is a piece of whimsy created playing with the features of a phone camera. I liked it.
I change them when I want a change, no set time or reason.
I stuck with the same one for years – myself with Vulcan ears on. Then updated it to a new one with Vulcan ears. And recently I started playing with it. Right now it’s a Luna moth. I’m already tired of it, though. Time for a new one.
I mostly feature my kids or grandkids. (For anyone reading this later, when I started this question I had a cat avatar of my ex-kitty Milo.) My current one is one of my favorites of one of the twins. Such a goof girl!
I was a worried guy at one point and Tobey Maguire always looks worried. When I got lucky I decided to change my name to this one and timed it to coincide with my 20k party. Anartist did some artwork and spruced it up a bit with the smiley face and 4 leaf clover as a gift.
We never suspected it would be one of the last gifts she’d make.
It’s probably about time I change it. I’ve always used a picture of me, but this one’s been up for a while. It’s a picture of me doing drunk karaoke, singing “Airplanes” by B.O.B.

Well, if nothing else, this thread has finally made me like the Count. And I used to hate him as a kid!
I change mine frequently because I simply get tired of looking at the same thing. My avatars usually express something about my life or personality though. For some reason ever since watching the 1977 movie The Car as a little kid I’ve always had an obsession with killer vehicles for some reason. I’ll frequently use a murderous vehicle for my avatar. Sometimes I’ll post my own photos of wooded areas I frequent, my pets or myself.
My avatar is of my granddaughter taking her very first selfie. I happen to think it’s the best selfie ever, and it should go viral. That’s what I think, anyway!
