If Iraq descends into civil war or some extremist government takes control can we finally say ”Mission accomplished”?
With all the billions of dollars spent in the sand, and the lives lost, both Iraqi civilians and US military personal, if after all that Iraq descends into a civil war, or some government unfavorable to Washington rises up and take control, will the US finally be able to unfurl the banner on the aircraft carrier and claim ”Mission accomplished”?

Didn’t we say “mission accomplished” like, ten years ago?
It’s mission accomplished when all the museums artifacts are returned.
They should put that on the asshole’s tombstone.

That was before anything was actually accomplished good or bad.
Nah. More like “I told you so.”
No. Because Americans never took to heart the principle described in one of General James Mattis’ more famous quotes….
No war is over until the enemy says it’s over. We may think it over, we may declare it over, but in fact, the enemy gets a vote
@josie Where did you serve? And thank you for what you did.
Didn’t the Iraq debacle end with our alleged hanging of Sadam Hussein?
That banner is in Dick Cheney’s sex dungeon, where he gets naked and excited and waterboards little kids. No way you’ll get it from him.
From the outset I believed that the decision to invade Iraq was the single greatest strategic blunder in the history of the United States. There is not going to be a democratic government in ANY Islamic country. The best that can be hoped for are parodies of what we consider democracy, and the reasons are simple and straightforward.
“If Iraq descends into civil war”. Haven’t you been reading the news?
“Mission Accomplished”. In the history of the world there has never been such extensive military power in the hands of such limited intelligence.
Americans claiming exclusive credit again, hence the pathetic use of “we”
On the bright side, when ISIS takes over Iraq completely and starts encroaching into neighbouring countries, the US and other nations will have a legitimate argument to intervene in the region….
The Commander in Chief who has been in power for the last 5½ years should be able to answer this question.
