Should I report this suspicious vehicle?

Asked by Seek (34808points) July 4th, 2014

Across the street from my house is a large gated property. It’s been for sale for the two years I’ve been here. The gates are closed and locked, and no one lives on the property.

There’s a car parked in the driveway in front of the gate. They’ve backed in so I can’t see the license plate. The engine is running and they have a foil sun shade in the windshield. They’ve been there for over 2 hours, as far as I’ve noticed.

What the hell are they doing?

Drug deal seems like to me.

I was going to say drug deal too.

I can see absolutely no reason not to report it, if only to give you peace of mind.

Having sex? Taking a road nap?

Like @Pachy I don’t see a downside to reporting it.

Did you report it?

Why would you report it?
Go over there and check
out the rear plate and
see what’s going on.

@Dan_Lyons – Maybe she wouldn’t want to do that because if there was a person in the vehicle and they were hostile, she would be dealing with that hostility herself and why would she want that?

I think you guys watch too much TV.

I agree with @Pachy and @jca. At worst you might inconvenience a patrol car, who is there, after all, to check on just such things.

@Dan_Lyons: I guess you haven’t lived in neighborhoods where properties have stood empty for long periods. I have. They are magnets for a long list of illicit activities. You are naive if you think otherwise.

@canidmajor And I drink Evian!

Why would anybody, man or woman, want to go personally to confront someone in a vehicle who may be hostile and who will also see the house that she (@Seek) is coming from? Why would Seek want that herself, especially when the cops get paid to take on that very activity?

Avoid speculation. Avoid confrontation. Avoid dealing with the police unless absolutely essential.

I think we should wait and see what happened before casting stones in this glass house.

Call and report it. DO NOT do anything that will put you in danger. Report it and forget about it, let the cops deal with it.

I’d report it. It obviously feels out of the norm to you. Worst way, someone has to explain their actions to the police. Don’t get involved beyond that.

Apparently someone else reported it. Two police cars showed up, deputies talked to the person in the car, then drove away. Person and car remained. We left, went to a barbeque, came back a few minutes ago (about midnight) and they were gone.

Our neighbor said he talked to them, and they claimed to be looking for some guy who skipped bail or something.

Strange haps.
