Should I lose weight before I start building muscle for body building?
I want to start body building and am wondering if I should lose a lot of weight before I start or just start building muscle right away. I am 6’1” 255 lbs. Thanx.

Best way is to do both at the same time.
Cut out the fats and extra carbs, some fat and carbs are important though and work out accordingly. You will build muscle as you lose extra fat and tone up as you go. Get plenty of high quality protein, lots of fruits and veggies, eggs, whey powder supplements. GNC makes a killer Banana whey protein powder that is awesome mixed with OJ.
What are your goals. Do you want to look like a bunch of walnuts stuffed in a condom or do you just want to look more toned like a NBA player?
Absolutely not. The best time to start lifting was yesterday. Lifting while you cut prevents muscle loss. Also 1 g of protein per lb of bodyweight is pretty standard while lifting. Protein shakes and bars will help, especially while eating at a deficit, but try to eat plenty of high protein foods as well. And there’s no need to cut fat and carbs – you can’t really do both at the same time anyway.

I agree with the above – lifting weights builds muscle which increases your metabolism to burn calories faster, and it makes noticeable changes in your body that keep you motivated to keep going.
No. Recovering muscle consumes fat while you sleep.

Besides, “shaming” is another one of those meaningless buzzwords used to defend an agenda.

Just lift heavy, use common sense/research, and don’t fall for gimmicks. I like to use Arnold’s “Encyclopedia of Bodybuilding” as a reference (even though I’m not a bodybuilder; I just like to brush up on anatomy/form from time to time)
