How does "flame-bait" differ from "personal attack"?
To me they all seem the same. Both refer to the fact that the answerer is attacking someone/saying something nasty and unacceptable.
I think “personal attack” is more direct than “flame-bait”. Is it correct?

You’ve answered your question to some extent with the second statement in your details.
A personal attack is directed at a specific jelly. E.g., “Brian is a neo-Nazi pedophile!”.
Flame bait is something that’s nasty and unacceptable, but isn’t directed at a specific jelly. It’s a common troll tool. E.g., “All fags will burn in hell!”.
I agree with your supposition that a personal attack is more direct than flame bait.
A personal attack would be me directly calling you a name.
Flame Bait would be me posting something outrageous that just begs for negative response from a wide variety of users.
Think sniper rifle vs napalm.
@Brian1946 So if I say ”@Brian1946 is an asshole!” that will be personal attack, and I say “All people whose name is Brian are assholes!” it will be flame-bait?
I wonder how you will categorize if I say “All people with the name Brian are asses! Therefore @Brian1946 is an ass” ~
“Brian is a neo-Nazi pedophile!”.
That’s kinda harsh, bro. :p
How does one determine when someone is being told to put a cork in it versus being personally attacked?
Flame bait: Flirting with another guy’s wife.
Personal attack: Humping anoth…blah de blah blah :D
@GloPro We look at the way it is said and the context of the whole comment.
“All fags will burn in hell!”
This troll needs to work on his or her subtlety.
If one isn’t occasionally accused of so called dog whistle politics they need to work on their game.
Flame-bait is bait for flames. It’s bait for a heated discussion, but not a civilized discussion. It’s obvious that all the poster wants to do is piss another person off.
How do you distinguish observation from personal attack?
Brian is a neo-nazi pedophile may be both.
The difference between fuck you and fuck her too.
@longgone Then I attacked @Brian1946 too. Harder! ~
Has this thread turned into “How to attack/flame without being modded” already? ~

It was @dappled_leaves with his mysterious There rhymes with where comment, out of the blue. I never saw where someone misused there, but their comments may have been edited… Somewhere.
I am hereby stating that I have been modded first. I would like to claim my price.
A personal attack is a direct insult on someone. Flame bait is someone trying to provoke personal attacks, and this could be aimed at one person, or an entire group. Just go to Youtube if you want to see what flame baiting is.
@GloPro Hey, this is my first post on this thread! ...did you just flame-bait me? ;)
On another website I knew a White guy who is horrible, insensitive, sadistic… in summary he’s an ass. When he stated his point, he always made a strange Noise. One day he force a man called Glo-rie to call him a Pro. He refused, so he stabbed him with a knife from an infamous Second Hand store called Stroke.
Luckily he’s Long Gone ~
Hmmm…
What site was this?
@longgone
Your prize is 140 pallets of “Brasil, 2014 World Champions.” T-shirts.
PM me to collect.
I call faul… It was I who was modded after explaining the difference between their and there. (Answered the wrong thread.)
I want that price and public punishment for anyone who falsely claimed it earlier.

[Mod says] Please refrain from making it personal folks. Disucssion about what is flame bait and a personal attack (and jokes) are fine, but please don’t turn this thread into real flame bait and personal attacks.
Edited to add that comments referring to moderated content have been removed as well to avoid continued discussion of the moderated content. Thank you.
