Would anyone here old enough to remember the 2 great Lana Turner soapers "Portrait in Black" and "Imitation of Life" care to comment on them?

Old enough I definitely am.

Those two Turner films are certainly fun but I wouldn’t call ‘em great. Now if you want to see two movies where Lana REALLY shines, see The Postman Always Rings Twice and the superb The Bad and the Beautiful.

For three GREAT soapers check out All That Heaven Allows and Magnificent Obsession, both with Rock Hudson and Jane Wyman, and Peyton Place.

I am not sure how a soap opera movie would be different from chick flicks in general, but I do love the movie Joy Luck Club, and The Color Purple certainly has soap opera themes, except of course black people.
