With the influx of vampire Jellies here on Fluther, it makes me wonder what a day…or…night in the life of a vampire is like. I’m sure it’s much different than the movies. Please enlighten endarken me!

The most toothless question ever?
~ It sucks. blah blah blah.
I’ll be back after sunset to check for real answers.
UM i must have missed those OP’s dangit. I’m a huge vamp fan so hopefully someone will hook a sista up with links.
^^ Funny you should say “sista”.
Isn’t that right sisters?
That morning I was not yet a vampire, and I saw my last sunrise. I remember it completely, and yet I can’t recall any sunrise before it. I watched the whole magnificence of the dawn for the last time as if it were the first. And then I said farewell to sunlight, and set out to become what I became.
@Jonsblond Is that Anne Rice?
I’d say it’s like being awkward/confused teenagers in high school just trying to get laid or get attention.
@Areyoukiddingme I went through a whole goth metal stage once, it’s part of finding your identity. Normal.
@KNOWITALL I did too, not goth but more conventional metalhead. I still am a metal fan just lost the look.
&AREYOU funny, me too, thrash metal isn’t a great look at 40 lol. Vampires are ‘in’ but on the way out. Fairy’s rawk!
Where are the real vampires when we need them?
If you’re lucky, you’ll get to look like Frank Langella or Johnny Depp
Otherwise you’ll just get to talk about blood lust, and how things are ever dark and use V symbols for fangs or how sparkly you are not, ‘cause that’s what they did in Twilight, and real vampires are not like that, and stuff like that, kind of boring.
Heeeeeeeeere vamps. Whassup suckahs, I mean, whasSIP sistas?
I can only imagine the pain they must feel, when some bigoted biologist insists on taxonomically putting them in the same class as mosquitoes and leeches. ;-(
Hemavore is not a valid classification, you xenophobic “zoologists”!
I disagree that vampire popularity is fading out. Sure, it got a surge with Twilight, True Blood, and Vampire Diaries in the past few years, which now seems to be fading, but people have been fascinated by vampires for a long time and that’s not changing anytime soon. Same with zombies.
Zombies are out. I used to be a fan of the genre but it’s gotten to so prevalent that most are just sick of it.
@ARE_you_kidding_me It’s still the same thing. All the vampire snobs turned their noses up at the hype Twilight caused just like zombie snobs are doing with the craze that occurred in popular media. But the “real” zombie fans will remain that way even after said craze passes, just like “real” vampire fans will still be into Anne Rice when people forget all about Edward Cullen…as some already have.
Just because you’re over zombies doesn’t mean it’s “out.”
Vampires are a part of history. They will never be “out.” From bloodletting to historic castles and modern day rituals, unlike fairies, vampirism is a very real phenomenon. It may not be the fantasy version depicted in movies, but it exists.
I was just talking to some of them, and one said it was like living an Edgar Allen Poe poem. The others said I could not directly seek them, so I guess it’s best to not give them attention, best for all I suppose.
@Livelaugh I wasn’t being disparaging, just meant the ‘craze’. My interest is ongoing not a fad.
Regarding the OP:
There is every possibility that vampires (I’m using that spelling generically) have a very different perspective from that of mortals.
This could be a tantalizing prospect for some.
I agree. I have zero interest in blood, except for dealing with it in the Emergency Room. And in those cases, my interest is in healing. So I would venture to say that understanding that point of view would be hard for me. That said, I don’t understand a lot of things about a lot of my friends.
Well, @dxs I applaud you for putting your curiosity out there, and letting our new jellies see that they aren’t unwelcome, just mysterious. It is sometimes difficult to understand how to welcome ones of different cultures, or sometimes whether anyone even should. After all, according to that movie, geez, drawing a blank. Was it called The Bad Boys? Anyway, supposedly I have made a mistake by inviting a vamp to come by for cookies and ice cream, because they can’t enter your home unless invited.
So, back to topic, good for you, asking to learn more about those “lurking” amongst us.
@dxs Agree. I think they should talk about other things along with their vampy stuff or everyone will just get fed up.
^^ Hopefully we don’t get fed upon.
@Mimishu Agreed. Vamps are supposed to have knowledge we don’t, I’d like to hear some of it.
I’m a little bit confused as to why, when they’ve been given an open invitation on this Q, not one of them has bothered to answer?
That would be like asking a Q about what is your favorite potluck dish, and me keeping completely silent.
@Kardamom “Let’s get to know the newcomers” threads almost never work, at least as far as I’ve noticed. It’s a little like shining a spotlight on someone you don’t know, and expecting them to dance for you.
I think that they may already be gone
@Kardamom As I stated above, it’s against their vampire religion. Oh well. We can focus on other things now.
You just had to follow someone who is allergic to sunlight.
I can tell you that it sucks when you have no other choice but to go out during the day. It takes twice as long to get everything done because I dread going out during the day, but nothing important is open at night, unless you live by the club scene, which I don’t. The closer I am to the equator the worse it is. I live in Alaska now, from Texas, and it’s much easier to live with here.
I make an appearance and you all bloody disappear? Figures.
We did see this question 5 years ago. We chose not to venture into the whips, chains, and pitchforks due to the witch hunt that was undermining any potential friendships from starting. Fluther then was full of hatred and against any views that differed theirs. We were not welcomed we felt and did not want to further penetrate those feelings from the surrounding townsfolk. I have returned recently to see if the water is still murky and I’m still unsure if I shall stay and invite the others. Although they aren’t here actively, they see all. I have monitored this site for years off and on. Most of which is political and seemingly another witch hunt against the current administration or the past administration.
Aside from my limited views of this place, I shall allow you inside my world even though it will be brief.
What is it like being a Vampire? I’ll start with the basic spelling. I use Vampire because it’s the modern form and I capitalize it because of it’s importance to me. The old form is Vampyre. WickedVamp spells it this way. Waking up is normal I would say or at least mostly. I get up very early without an alarm clock and yes, it’s daylight. I don’t sparkle. I drink coffee with added flavor which I won’t go into. It gives me what I need for the day.
I ride a motorcycle. It’s something I enjoy thoroughly.
I always seek out the darkest corners of every room and stand there. I like and need the darkness as well as the added protection against the other evil entities that may materialize.
At night I mix myself with all forms of other dark entities including other Vampires, music, moods and shadowy creatures. I adore the midnight air and the distant howling and rustling in the woods. I am a woods walker at night. I consider myself a survivalist and close with nature.
I have learned many skills that will and have kept me alive with no luxuries about.
The family shares something magical. Something you can’t possibly understand. We discuss deeply, we protect each other, and we feed.
Only a small handful of sincere, polite and genuine jellies are left but they don’t post much. The remaining would easily be outnumbered should the previous clutch return.
@Mastema2 So long ago that I didn’t even realize it was I who asked this question—thanks for sharing. Sounds nice to have a close-knit group like that. What kind of skills are you talking about?
