How long should I expect it to take to hear back from a realtor?
I left him or her a voice mail yesterday and today, and sent an email yesterday Does this person want to sell the house or not? I realize it’s a weekend (today is Sunday,) but isn’t that part of the deal for them?

Maybe out of town, but you should still get a call-back if it’s a mobile number.
I’m very particular about realtors, have been burnt nearly every time. Is there some reason you want to use this certain realtor?
She’s the one selling the house we want to look at.
My cousin is a real estate agent. She does most of her work on the weekends because that’s when most clients are available. She always has her cell phone with her and calls people back either immediately or within a couple of hours, even if she’s on vacation (or she changes her voicemail to reflect the fact that she won’t be available until such and such a date).
That’s what my thoughts were. Weekends are the deal with realtors. I can’t believe we haven’t heard back.
If I seriously thought I might be interested in buying a house, I would visit a few offices and meet as many realtors as I could. From those meetings, i would pick one I felt comfortable with and use them.
Screw this pot-luck, enrich a total stranger that you may hate, crap. Twice I have dealt with realtors that were nearly incompetent, neither even showing up for the close. Both got full commission, just as if they had held my hand every step of the way.
Go find you a realtor, or ask people that you know for a reference.
Weekends are major open house zones, be patient, they may have all kinds of clients they are showing to and juggling open houses too. Waiting a couple of days and giving the benefit of the doubt is best.
If it is a MLS listing get a hold of another Realtor (we did this and it worked great).
The missing agent may be out a percentage of the sale but…. ;>)
@ibstubro She’s the realtor selling the house, Not MY realtor. She was hired by the bank that foreclosed on it. If we want the house we have to go through her.
I did, but their offices aren’t open over the weekend. I’ll get some word tomorrow.
If the house is on the open market, you can go through any realtor, but that realtor will have to cut the listing agent in.
It could be that they are already doing a deal, and they’re not returning calls about the property until they’re nearly certain. Better to not return your call than to call you and tell you the house might maybe already be sold, but they’ll know after the banks open Monday.
By close of the next business day (so by 5pm Monday).
@Cupcake If this was a business that worked a normal 9–5, M-F I’d agree. But realtors are different. Their lively hood depends on sales, so they shouldn’t blow people off.
Well, it’s Monday. I’ll call again and let you guys know.
@Dutchess_III I agree with you… but they might be busy with open houses or actually spending some time with their family.
I, personally, wouldn’t expect a call back on the weekend. It would be nice… but not expected. I would feel differently if I was a customer with a current listing.
I heard back. It already has a contract on it. :’(
Ah HA! That was my final guess.
Sniffling. But it was bad PR, anyway. Not conducive to new business.
Lurve. 26,666 as of this post.
Most realtors return calls within a few hours! More than 24 hours is ridiculous. The only exception is commercial real estate, but still usually they get back to you.
Isn’t there a phone number for the real estate company? There should be a number for the real estate company and also a phone number for the realtor himself.
There were 2 numbers. The first just rang and rang. The second rang and rang, then gave options. I choose 0, and it sent me to some voicemail.
Anyway, I was able to get a hold of them this morning.
