What can you tell me about getting insurance licensing?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) July 31st, 2014

I interviewed for a position that requires that I get licensed in insurance if I am hired. I have a very good feeling about the interview, but want to know a bit more about the licensing part. What is it for? Is it difficult to get? Is it expensive? Would it look good if I got my licensing now, or should I wait until I find out if I’ve been hired?

This job description I was given says I need to complete “BIA training.” When I google it in conjunction with “Insurance” it comes up with Bangladesh Insurance Academy Is that what BIA is??

I think this is the one you want.
http://www.biainsuranceagency.com/
As I look further I see even more BIA Insurance Companies. The first one came up under the search Insurance Education BIA.

Oh, oops. It’s BAI, not BIA. So much for my fantastic attention to detail.

OK, the job description reads “Completes internal required BAI training.”

In NJ, it is three weeks of fulltime instruction – or an equivalent number of hours in class – followed by an exam that you must pass. Kansas regulations may be different. I would not subject myself to the schooling unless I knew I had a job. “Internal” required sounds like you might be taking an online course in the office. Obviously, something you need to ask about at the interview.

Well, I already had the interview. He handed me this paper listing everything while we were in the middle of it. It’s quite lengthy and I didn’t want to interrupt them while I read it. I’ll send an email.

OK, next, they say “Maintains and updates the WAVE as needed.” I googled “Wave pertaining to insurance” Do you think this is the WAVE they are referring to? I know I could ask, but I’d rather take a chance on looking dumb in front of you people instead of them.

What are they calling the position? That might help me understand better.

OK, it’s an insurance agency within a bank. Kind of convoluted. They deal mainly in crop insurance. The position would be as an assistant to the manager. She reports to the VP of HR & Marketing. So it would be just us 3, but working in the bank and affiliated with it.
